His NFL career started when he was hired as LB coach for the Cowboys (under head coach Chan Gailey and DC Dave Campo). Then Steve Spurrier hired him to the Redskins (he played LB for Spurrier when Spurrier was head coach at Duke, and Spurrier gave him his first coaching job as a coaching assistant at the U of Florida). After he and Spurrier got fired, the Browns hired him as a LB coach (under head coach Butch Davis). When he and Butch Davis got fired, he became LB coach of the Dolphins (Nick Saban, Cam Cameron, Tony Sparano and Exec. VP Bill Parcells). And now he is the new DC of the Florida Gators. Bio from wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Edwards_(American_football) Bio from Miami Dolphins: http://www.miamidolphins.com/content/george-edwards Cons: --His only NCAA coaching experience was one year as Georgia's DL coach and six years as an assistant for various schools (4 at Appy State, 1 at Duke, 1 at Florida). --He has only been a DC for one year at any level, for Steve Spurrier's 2003 NFL Redskins (5-11)... they finished #24 of 32 in scoring D and #25 of 32 in total D. Both he and Spurrier got fired at the end of that season. Two guys from that 2003 Redskin D made the Pro Bowl that year: LB LaVar Arrington and CB Champ Bailey. Pros: lots of NFL experience as a LB coach... appears to be very good at coaching LBs, even coached four Pro Bowl LBs at three different teams: Dexter Coakley with the Cowboys (1999, 2001), LaVar Arrington with the Redskins (2002, 2003), Zach Thomas (2005, 2006) and Joey Porter (2008) with the Dolphins. These are the LBs he'll have to work with at Florida... A.J. Meyer himself played DB in college). Heater and Meyer also coached together at Ohio State for two years ('86 to '87) and at Colorado State for two years ('91 to '92). Charlie Strong was already the Florida DC when Meyer and Heater started coaching there in 2005. GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Now, Florida coach Urban Meyer might be able to begin his leave of absence. Right. The two-headed monster approach should be great. I am loving the implosions happening - CUM's pending leave of absence, Little Petey leaving USC, and now a two-headed monster approach to defense at UF............If only, CLM could take advantage of this scenario, fire CGC, hire Grogan and the world would be in harmony and balance.
