today's Collegiate Baseball poll has us #1 in the nation, but all the other polls have Florida #1 i thought we'd be a 5 or 6 national seed. as for Florida, they were preseason #1 in all the polls, had like like 6 guys on the Preseason All-American teams, and were considered the team to beat by everybody, the most talented team in the nation, etc... so they had a ton of hype also, their RPI was #1 coming into this week (it's #2 now, while LSU is #7 and South Carolina is #11). the reason their RPI was so high was because they scheduled some really good OOC teams -- they won all three games vs Florida State (RPI: #3, currently ranked #3), they swept Miami @Miami (RPI: #12, hosting a regional), they won their series vs Cal State Fullerton (RPI: #20, currently ranked #12), and they beat UCF (RPI: #22, currently ranked #15) meanwhile, the only decent OCC teams that LSU played was Appy State (RPI: #40), Southeastern La. (RPI: #59), and Tulane (RPI: #63) so the committee wants to reward teams that schedule really good OCC teams like Florida did, combined with how Florida (18-12 in SEC) was only one game behind LSU (19-11) for #1 in the SEC, and Florida won their series against the other two teams with 18 SEC wins, South Carolina and Kentucky
The committee wants to and they did reward them. It's more important to me how you did in your conference. The SEC has won the last 4 CWS titles so all that non-conference scheduling is a bunch of hooey. We still won the SEC title and beat them at their place. We'll just have to beat 'em in Omaha.
They draw Ga. Tech in their regional. Tech is balanced and deep, like FU, and is peaking at the right time. Not saying FU won't win, but they will have their hands full; much like us with Or. State.
I will be there setting up on Thursday. Looking forward to another regional. I agree with the decision to start Nola on Friday. We'll see what happens.
