It was a much closer thing that is given credit. The dropped passes were at critical times and changed the complection of the first half and early 2nd half. I did think the Oline for being shuffled twice or three times in the game (Williford out then in then out, PJ out then back in) did a fair job of pass blocking. I thought the D got desperate in the later part of the game and lost discipline which resulted in Fla's success running. That and the totally bogus PF call on Muncie and a couple of no call holding by Fl on critical runs gave the gaturds breath. Red is right about Minter though HE IS A BEAST!! After the Jan 9 game I defended Les for going conservative and not trying to pass etc. I still do. However looking at the rest of the season I think he needs to take more gambles and keep giving Mett & the WRs a chance to step up. I remember a 3 and 2 or so in the 3rd qtr where we had a chance to have a successful drive Fla stacked the box with at least 9 and we gave it to Ware (I think) who was met in the backfield. A pass to Jacobs may have worked. Over the past 8 years Les has been able to adjust to situations effectively if somewhat slowly. I think it is time to adjust gain.
Someone earlier in the thread mentioned that we've gotten away from the run too much. I agree. We absolutely MUST go back to running the football--probably about 70/30. Yesterday, we'd gain 5 yards running on 1st down, throw an incompletion on 2nd, and have to pass on 3rd. A big formula for 3 and out when WRs don't catch the ball. I'm sorry, if it hits you in the arms/hands, catch the damn ball. But we need to get back to what WAS our strength.
how you gonna run when the o-line dont block good, this isnt the big 10 sec is much faster smash mouth football dont work.
The could run block well. I think so much focus must be on pass blocking right now that we aren't doing anything right on the offensive line. And JD needs to move back to LT, so we can stop shuffling the line.
Well put. I agree. The difference was 3rd down. UF converted, LSU didn't. 3-outs led to short fields, tired defense, and limited offensive snaps. UF lined up, smacked us right in the mouth and beat us at our own game. Period Just like the Auburn game, LSU had chances to them down by two scores early, and failed to get it done. Failed to protect the ball, failed to stop UF on 3rd and short, and failed to convert on 3rd and short. We lost in the trenches. Lost LOS Lost TOP Lost Field Position Lost turnover margin Lost the game. Blame who you want. But, even with CLM boring vanilla offense, those were areas we didn't lose last year, and ended up beating teams into submission in the 2nd half. At least we were not beat into submission. Hopefully we figure it out and see them again and unbeaten in Atlanta. I can still hope
Well said, and it could have made a world of difference. Score 14 instead of 6 and the game has a different complexion. It was inexcusable to have 1st and goal on the 8 after the UF fumble and to come away only with a FG. How do you fix that?
