Bama fan here... I really respect LSU football and i look forward to this game more then any other regular season game. The talent on both teams is unreal and alot of great games should be in our future as long as CLM and CNS are at these schools. Great game and i can't wait for next year!
I'm not trying to upset the tiger nation, but I think merely commenting will do it right now. People are not going to bring up the Tide's history if they didn't understand that history themselves. LSU has been on the national football scene when florida's claim to fame was their Gatorade. Now , who are we going to root against, Really? Let's see: whoever plays our team, whoever benefits us the most, and finally, whoever offends us the least. I think the Tide vs Tiger rivalry is on.
I knew that would tweak the Tide Faithful. There is truth based on my recent experiences with Tide fans I know. They are MUCH more vocal. Kind of like "See we are back, we have over taken you, you suck we dont" where as a younger man they acted a little more "This is what we expect" or "Act like you have been there before" But it is true, in recent years LSU and Bama has been the have's and the have nots. Bama has changed that and now LSU is chasing them again. I saw a Bama fan here in Dallas the other day prior to this game, he saw my LSU hat and I knew he had a comment as I could see it in his eyes and the "Hey LSU" so I quickly pretended I was working on my Blackberry to avoid what I knew was going to be a "Hey LSU Sucks" conversation. And I noticed he was wearing an Alabama 2008 SEC West Champions. I found that interesting. Note: I used to be a frequent poster on tidefans.com. Matter of fact I thought the majority of the people there were great, but about 3 years ago the vitriol towards us got to a point I had no more interest. the "LSU people are Trash", etc etc. Check out this board and a post in the Roundtable. Sums it up pretty good. So yes, although every base has their miserable fans lord knows we do on this very board. Its been amazing since Bama's resurrection the large amount of "bama" fans that have come out of the woodwork lately. Sadly when they were bad is when the true fans and commonly good people were around. Now a week doesn't pass where some Bama fan doesn't come here with the standard "LSU sucks, people from Louisiana are Trash" threads. I guess the point ? is we have a great deal of really nice and well thought out Bama fans on this board and around. But it seems in the last two years more and more "Bama" fans have come out of the woodwork with the agenda to pin a win or a loss on the ability to insult. Sadly this is common when a team gets good. We have it to. But it just seems to be more "Nanee Nanee Boo Boo" lately coming from many Bama fans. Kind of unbecoming that is all.
which between that and the game really got me on a "gumps are trash" tear. then i have had them rolling on the floor!
I didn't read this in the thread but maybe I missed it. This is a very easy answer to this thread. WE don't play Florida for the number 1 spot in the SEC east. WE do play Alabama for the number 1 spot in the SEC west. Not to long ago it was always us vs Auburn. That is where the rivalry comes from thus the attitude of some fanbase. Let me say that I do think Nick Saban's demeanor has rubbed off on some of their fanbase but everyone has good and bad fans! Edit: Alabama vs Auburn fanbase would be more like it!
btw, this is not intended to be stirring the pot. honest. but every time i see tusktimes avatar it makes me think that elephant is taking a sh*t. i could add a really appropriate joke, but in honor of red, i wont.
As a Bama fan, I had never really focused on the LSU fanbase, didn't have a set opinion one way or another. What has made the biggest impression on me from the LSU fans has been the reaction to Saban taking the Bama job. And even that can get a little complicated...I figured the level of hostility and general distress over Saban at Bama was the LSU fans' understanding that Saban would soon have Bama back to playing like a traditional Bama team plays. To try to keep it in perspective, I tell myself to think how it would seem if Stallings, after leaving Alabama, had taken the LSU job, or even worse, the Auburn job. So y'all go on about how bad Saban, Bama and it's fans are, this Bama fan sees it as a lefthanded show of respect.
