i didn't say you were stupid, i said you were being stupid about this. people are morons about the flag. and you are wrong, i am not ignorant, there will be no legal ramifications for a business that manages itself as if it actually has the right to dictate things like this. of course businesses can tell employees not to fly a flag. how is that not obvious? of course it is stupid for people to be offended. it is also stupid that businesses have to pretend all sort of other crap is true as well. but they do. they pretend to care about the environment, they put black people in their ads, they misrepresent everything in order to calm idiots down and maximize profits. if not getting involved in s free speech at the workplace controversy means telling peope to leave the flags at home, then obviously they should and will restrict flags. why you no understand? read the following in an accent like cletus from the simpsons: "i'm agunna wave the dadbern flag everywhere and never understand how the dang flag dont mean i own the rights to decorate every location on the planet" - you
this is refreshing to see. true respect for the american flag. Homeless man rescues American flag during storm
Yeah, and the Constitution guarantees to allow you the pursuit of happiness, but says nothing about guaranteeing that you will capture it. Whatever happened to the old saying that "one person's rights end where another person's begin"? FWIW, folks like Martin don't seem to understand - or have forgotten - that even if the flag is "just a symbol", it's the symbol of what guarantees his right to speak his thoughts, whether we agree with them or not, and for us to do the same. And here's my opinion: being a patriotic, church-going, all around good guy or gal is a REALLY good thing. And that used the be the vast majority of Americans. Especially the naturalized immigrants who may have appreciated our freedoms even more than those who were born here and seem to take our freedoms more or less for granted.
it isnt respect for the actual flag that matters, but what the flag represents. like rush limbaugh always says, we have become a nation that has forgotten what matters, we are obsessed with symbolism over substance.
the flag is a tangible symbol of all that it represents which are intangible. by honoring it, we are showing respect to what it represents. i choose to honor it as a symbol, and what because of what it represents, it means a great deal to me and deserves the utmost respect. if others choose not to honor or respect it, that is their prerogative.
burning it is actually a tangible way to respect it, because then you are actually performing a protected act of free speech, instead of doing something utterly pointless like keeping it out of the rain or whatever. like i said, some people do not understand the difference between symbolism and reality. like the muslims that start killing when you draw a cartoon or stuff the koran down the toilet. it is a very primitive way to think.
Wouldn't destroying the flag in the most despicable manner possible be the best way to show respect? Every time I see some idiot hippie burning a flag it makes me swell with pride because I live in a place that is so free people are allowed to not understand irony.
i think it dishonors the flag, but at the same time is allowed by all that the flag stands for. it is ironic tho.
