I actually agree with that. I dont know where I really stand on this issue, I get mad sometimes when I see a ton of different flags and to hear people talk about how great their home country is, while reaping benefits here. Then other times I dont care what they fly or say. And i'll go ahead and throw it out, Jamaicans are the worst at this, they love to fly their flag and brag about how great their country is and it usually irks me.
They don't have to be mutually exclusive. I see no problem with celebrating a heritage. It doesn't have to mean being offended by the US flag to celebrate heritage. it is the ones that are promoting foreign nationalism with the flags that disrespect the US flag or get offended by it.
seriously, i cant think of a reason it would offend a person living here on philosophical grounds. We can disagree with alot of policies and the state of affairs, but cant think of any place else i would rather be.
We are talking about 2 different examples here. In your example, I don't have a problem with some business owner restricting his employees from flying flags or getting a tattoo or coming to work naked or anything. It's his business so he can do whatever he wants. The point I am making is that if you want to do that, it needs to be in writing and the employees need to accept the policy...instead of owner guy just coming up to you one day and arbitrarily deciding that running a lot offends him so you can't do it any more. If you keep running and he fires you, you sue. If he puts it in writing and you refuse to stop running, then you find another job. That's it. I am only speaking in terms of legality. You are sounding the Communism alarm.
and part of the hospital story is it wasnt the owner of the hospital who said the woman couldnt place a flag in the office there, it was a supervisor. and there were no policies in place against it. when it came down to it, the owner of the hospital let the flag be there and apologized after the flap was made. but that a supervisor without any written policy threatened the womans job over it because said supervisor was offended....... f' her. not her hospital either.
If you don't own the hospital, and there is no policy against it, you (the supervisor in this example, and martin) should STFU and let the person fly it.
