    It's interesting you mention this era. One of the major complaints from Bama fans—and this maybe what he's referring to, I don't know—is how Rich Johanningmeir circumvented (or ignored, your call) standing NCAA bylaws in his investigation.

    Enter Miami and their recent scandal. That fell apart because of Rich Johanningmeir doing the same thing.

    By no means do I want to enter a debate on those years or the validity of sanctions. I do want to ask.

    Wherein lies the difference?

    (As a side note: There was a part of me that was happy to see what happened with the text books. I complained about that constantly when I was as student at UA. I'm not talking about the 22 that were aware they were aware of what they were doing. I'm specifically referring to the 180 or so that were looped in due to the way the academic departments/Supply Store assigned what they called "required material" that wasn't by any stretch of the imagination.)
