You're Crowton. What do you call for the first play??? For me? I would actually START RP for the first play of the game and get the defense to play the run because of it. I put him in the shotgun ("pistol") formation and I let Byrd run a "fly" route and have RP chuck the ball as far as he can and see if Byrd can run under it. I do that because in one swoop, a completed long pass on the first play will get Ohio State thinking: "Crap! Not AGAIN?!!" An incompletion doesn't hurt, but if Byrd (or whomever) got behind the defense, we'd still have the same desired effect on them.
The last thing I want to see is for us to get "stuffed" on our first play. I realize that you didn't specifiy how many yards Hester would get....but I don't want to see the OSU defense getting all fired up on the first play. I want to knock the air from their sails early.
agreed i don't want to see a stuff either. A nice big run would be a bit of a stinger to the run defense of OSU. That is what i am hoping for.
