What, Penn, no explanation of the drinking laws in Louisiana. I am so disappointed. That was always your first, second and third question.
As a California resident who comes into town for a game a year since 2000, I can't stress this enough. Baton Rouge has very little to offer a tourist outside of gameday. NOLA, 90 minutes away, is America's greatest city for food, fun and music. It also has tons of hotel rooms, so you won't be paying $175 to stay in some crappy motor court. Some jackass will inevitably tell you that NOLA is dirty and dangerous. Whatever. You can say that about NY, SF, Miami and lots of other interesting places. Did I mention that it's way more expensive to fly into Baton Rouge? Are you hoping to get laid? Also far easier in NOLA. Baton Rouge is the city of my birth, and a very important place to me. I don't mean to be insensitive. **Do not come all the way to Louisiana and hang out there the whole time.**
It may not be indicitive of South Carolina, but I didn't get to campus until almost 1 for Washington and there was ample room in the Kirby lots.
Kirby has opened up a little this year coz of the softball stadium is now a parking lot where the students park freeing up some parking for fans... it is where we tailgate and love it
Maybe so but you can't say this about 'em: http://www.npr.org/2012/07/05/155986277/new-orleans-struggles-with-murder-rate-and-trust
I guess it all depends on how long you are staying in La. I flew in on Thanksgiving evening, spent the entire day Friday gameday tailgating, at the stadium, at The Chimes, and TJ Ribs. Saturday I saw Mike the Tiger, hit the LSU gear stores, had lunch at Acme Oyster house, and flew home Saturday night. Not that I wouldn't have liked to go to NOLA, but I didn't have the time, and I did like being so close to campus on gameday. As for my flight, it wasn't any more to fly into Baton Rouge.
wth I said this in another thread and got my ass royally chewed out and was told to leave Louisiana. Nice to see double standards around here.
You do know he's fishin? I'm from BR too and live in Slidell/work in NOLA East. NOLA is just like any other big city, there are chitty parts and awesome parts. Difference is in NOLA, its usually separated by only half a block. Party all you want but stay in the party areas and you are fine. Flyin into NOLA is cheaper, cuz its a bigger airport but there are usually decently priced flights out of Atlanta multiple times a day to BR as well if that happens to be your layover. However, rental cars are VERY limited. That said, BR is not a chit hole with nothing to do outside of game day. There are some good bars and decent restauraunts, many of which have been named by Red. If it were my list, I'd exclude R&K though.
