Come on dude. Who said Stephen Hawking would make a good QB. I'm talking about being able to make decisions in a split second. Physical skills are great, but I'll take a mental guy with average physical skills over a freak athlete with a peanut for a brain any day. Give me Drew Brees, you can keep Michael Vick.
I knew he worked with him in the summer before his freshman season but I didn't know he did it twice. Still, it seems like between Whitfield and Cameron they would be able to correct any mechanical flaw in his throwing motion. Baseball pitchers work with pitching coaches on their delivery motion all the time.
Me and Ross watched the same game. https://twitter.com/DellengerAdv/status/663533118800789506 Ross Dellenger @DellengerAdv Nov 8 #Bama in the box on 17 Fournette carries (2 goal snaps excluded) 9 men: 1 8: 5 7: 6 6: 5 UA had at least 7 in box each time #LSU was in I
Again, I didn't say the play calling was great. Just that it was at least balanced. Also, why not practice and play this way the entire year? Why wait until the best defense you will play to try and find balance? Many of the run plays were from the spread as well.
And another. http://www.theneworleansadvocate.com/sports/lsu/13940864-128/weve-got-to-play-better "Alabama seemed to do three things to stop Fournette and LSU’s rushing game: their defenders won man-on-man blocking battles; they crept a safety near the line as an extra defender; and they gang tackled Fournette. Several players suggested Alabama loaded the box, the area stretching from the line of scrimmage 8 yards out in the middle of the field. Even Fournette said Monday afternoon that “they had eight in the box every time.” Not quite. Alabama had the same amount of defenders in the box as LSU had blockers on 11 of Fournette’s 17 runs. Two goal-line runs were excluded, as there’s always a crowded line of scrimmage. On six Fournette carries, Bama brought one extra defender. Many times, that guy was Tide safety Eddie Jackson, who crept toward the line just before the snap. “Every time we ran the ball, I could see out of my peripheral (vision) the safety’s coming down,” Fournette said. “Their game plan was to stop our running game. And I think they did a pretty good job.” That extra safety on one-third of Fournette’s carries doesn’t explain Bama’s front forcibly pushing LSU’s linemen deep into the backfield on a consistent basis. No one has a real answer for that."
Had LSU mixed in more early down passes in the first half things may have been different. Again, look at what Bama did early on. They kept the LSU D off balance by mixing in passes early on, then running. Add to that the fact Steele does not know how to adjust.
That's not what you said in the first 2 posts. You said 8 man fronts once in the 1st series then after a fumble. Yet here you say 8 man 5 times. No one said they ran against 8 man fronts the whole game. In fact most people have said it was hat on hat a lot of the time and LSU still couldn't block them, and Alabama put on a clinic on how to shed a block and make a tackle and even make 1 arm tackles while being blocked.
Yes, 8 man fronts on about 2 possesions. I saw plenty of posts about running into a stacked box all night and that just wasn't the case. It's understandable because I thought it was the same until I watched it again. Hell, even Fournette thought it was. I think we actually agree though because basically we just got beat up front. They didn't need to stack the box. Plus the first post was only for the first half, not the whole game.
Gotcha. Yeah there were 8 man fronts a 9 mine front once, some 8 on 7 (LSU's 8) some 8 on 6 (LSU's 8) 5 on 5, some 6 on 5 and 6 on 6. LSU just got whooped. This vaunted offensive line was just that, offensive. Vadal Alexander is playing out of position. He shouldn't be a tackle, he is a natural guard and will be a guard on Sunday. Hawkins got beat pretty regurlarly and was a huge disappointment, Pocic was abused, Teuhema was abused also, honestly Clapp had the best game but let's not act like it was spectacular. Not having Dillon Gordon or a healthy JD Moore I don't think would have made much of a difference. If you want to watch a defense put on a tackling clinic, rewatch that game. I've never seen a defense be able to shed blocks and 1 arm tackle while being blocked like Alabama did. And Alabama's secondary may be suspect in coverage, but they can damn sure tackle. Meanwhile on the other side, Derrick Henry was running through the one arm tackling. That was about as lopsided a match in the trenches on both sides that I've seen from an LSU Alabama game since Shaun Alexander ran for 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns against LSU in the Francione game. It was very painful to watch.
