Yes, but not as much as the youngsters do. If we lose Mettenberger to an injury (and we have had a lot of injuries to quarterbacks in the last 10 years) we can't afford to have a totally green replacement. These OOC games are their only chance to get some early PT. Once the SEC schedule starts, the reserves won't see the field much.
He's not saying to play to prevent injury. He's saying backups need to get experience now, instead of waiting until it's too late, because injuries do happen.
You can't stop an injury and there will always be a what if. Play to win every game and every down. Just my 2 cents.
I realize that sometimes they can be effective as a change of pace, but I want to see NO bubble screens this week. Let's make our opponents think we have ripped them out of the playbook until we need to surprise someone. Otherwise, let's control the game from the start on both sides of the ball as many other posters have mentioned.
Miles has been known to keep things very vanilla in the beginning of the season. I expect the same this one. It might be a little close until half way into the second quarter. But talent is talent, and the tigers have plenty. LSU puts up 38 to 42 points with stout running and a few nice pass plays. And we are all happy to make it through with a "w" and with everyone healthy.
