The following stats can be used throughout the season to make sense of why LSU didn't start out with huge numbers on returning kickoffs vs their opponents' stats: Average Start for LSU after Kickoff Return: 35-yard line " " " Opp " " " 20-yard line Having several of the nation's top speed returners wearing P&G has forced LSU's timid (but smart) opponents to pooch-kick somewhere near the Tiger 25-to-30-yard line, hoping to prevent a large return. Thus, LSU 'only' managed a 7/8-yard return vs the Huskies. However, look at the difference in where each team starts their first down attack. It measures out to be worth over 1 1/2 first downs in the Tigers favor. I love seeing Trindon or Keiland turn their wheels loose as much as anyone. But I'll settle for great field position any game. Enjoy the rest of the 2009 season. :geaux:
That's a good point - and you're right, it's not how many yards of return that matters, it's the resultant field position. :geaux:
Yeah if you watched the Miami-FSU game, Miami was scared to kick it deep and squib kicked because of that Reid kid #5. FSU kept starting between the 40 and 50 yard line for the most part all game long.
That was a great game. Fun to watch. Jacory Harris...WOW. If they can get 30 lbs. on that kid he could be a good one for many years. It's hard to tell since they played each other but both of those teams looked pretty decent. I grew up a Florida St. fan so it was nice to reminisce...
