While I am not for women in the SEALs, it is no disgrace to drop out. I had two classmates that went SEALS. They were "perfect" physical specimens, and both talked SEALS for four years. Nothing else. One got married between commisioning and reporting to Coronado. He made it almost three weeks, the other guy lasted less. No matter how committed and how prepared, you don't know your limit until you reach it.
She had her shot and she tapped out. Nothing sexist about it. She could not meet the standards of the BUDS program and that makes her no different than the thousands of others who have rang that bell to say they're done. I still believe women should be allowed to gain entry to elite training and units but only if they can meet the same physical requirements that are demanded of males.
Simple biology gets in the way. I have had to go weeks in the jungle or dessert without acces to any kind of shower. All we had was a canteen shower. It is very hard on a female in those situations. Which is why females in those situations are bused back to the rear. That's a reality and is only one of many sI tuitions where a female physic doesn't allow for the same operational freedoms.
She lasted longer than I would have, but then again I'm half a century. Kudos for her making it that far, but like many said there is a reason only a tiny percentage of humans can call themselves a SEAL. No shame in tapping out of that program.
I do not disagree with you that the very nature of warfare isn't conducive to female biology. That being said, if by some freak of nature a female could complete the very same training as the males, without exception, then so be it.
I don't think they are sexist but what if some bad ass bitch comes along and doesn't quit and makes it through?
Then shes an anomaly. Just like a midget. What if a midget made it through? Oh thats right, they arent medically cleared to join the military.
