Doesn't matter, as long as politicians like Rice have a say it won't be seen as legitimate. Having former coaches and ADs may spark debate over bias but at least it wouldn't be seen as a total joke.
TCU or Kstate will be a really tough out for the other two teams you have there. Oregon is a sham. I posted this a few months ago. They are quickly going the way of Boise St and baring some type of shifting wind we won't have to deal with them for much longer. In the last 3-4 years they have dropped in recruiting. I think they were near 20 last year. Mich State, yeah okay. Where are the luckeyes? They just may creep back into this thing if we aren't careful.
What do rankings now have to do with the final four playoff teams. They should operate like the NC A A tournament selection committee and wait until the season is over, meet and select the top 4 based on a complete season of work. These weekly rankings are just going to inject politics into the process.
I don't have a problem with Rice. It doesn't take a special skill set to pick the Top 4 teams. I pretty sure most of us can come close to picking the same teams they will select. I prefer her to the ADs and conference commishes who have at least some pressure to pimp their conference and lack the appearance of impartiality.
The pecking order as I see it: 1) Undefeated SEC 2) Undefeated FSU 3) 1 loss SEC Champ 4) 1 loss Pac 12 Champ 5) 1 loss SEC Non Champ 6) 1 loss FSU 7) 1 loss Michigan State 8) 1 loss Big 12 9) 1 loss Notre Dame 10) 1 loss Duke 11) 1 loss Ohio State Not many scenarios that will yield a 1 loss SEC team not being the conference champ. MSU is the most likely as they could easily end up with just 1 loss and be the odd man out in the West tie-breaking scenarios (since their loss will probably be to Alabama or Ole Miss). Oregon would easily jump a 1 loss non SEC Champ by playing their conference championship while the aforementioned 1 loss SEC team sits at home. Flip a coin on that same 1 loss SEC non champ vs a 1 loss FSU. Notre Dame and especially Ohio State are essentially done, based on this initial poll.
That's exactly what I did not want to see happen. They are doing the right thing is having a top 25 every week. At the same time, Ohio State being #16 should seal their fate as having no chance at the playoffs. I certainly don't want to see some type of auto-correction and all of a sudden Ohio State is 6th in the ranking. If you've made your statement, stick to it. Same thing with Notre Dame being #10.
Here is how I see it. The Southeastern conference should tell this crappy postseason system to fuck off and they should start their own. Get rid of east and west and the championship game. Make everyone play each other. At the end of the season take the top 4 and have your own playoff. Crown a national champion. Who needs the rest of college football?
They needed a woman on the committee. She was once engaged to Rick Upchurch . . . and she owns a football jersey. Plus she's a twofer.
