Why can't they be happy with good enough? Forget them. Bama was under our thumb till Miles handed over the crown.
I don't believe it currently. But you're wrong, towards the end Les' teams were a travesty; sure they turned it around for A&M, but most of 2015 and the start of 2016 were gnarly.
To be fair, Eaux is presiding over quite a few historically bad games. I think Miles was right there at the end, except with talent masking it.
Most of 2015 was quite good. In fact, we were ranked ahead of Alabama before we played them. However, the wheels came off after losing to them....again. The start of 2016 was awful--though there are rumblings that Orgeron was working against Miles on the inside. That couldn't have been good.
look at the LOOOOOONG list of schools who have fired coaches similar to Miles. long tenure, lots of winning, got stale and tapered at the end while still winning a lot more than losing. Some of the schools in that list have a much better overall history than LSU does. Every single one of them went backwards with the new hires. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. that is why anyone with a decent football IQ outside of Louisiana questioned us firing Les. there is only a handful of guys that have equaled what Les did here. and even fewer who topped it. the odds of landing someone who would be significantly better was going to be very slim. chances are we were going to take a step back. i defended Les as long as i did, not because he was great. but because history was not in our side. Nebraska (3rd coach since firing Solich. topped out at equal to what got him fired) Michigan (3rd coach since chasing off Carr) Texas (2nd coach since Mack) Bama in 90s (long unimpressive list between stallings and Saban) Tennessee (3rd coach since firing Fulmer) All schools with richer history than ours have tried what we did. All of them suffered for a while because of it. And having Alleva as AD makes that even worse. THAT’S why you don’t pull the plug on Miles unless you KNOW you got your guy lined up. you damn sure don’t do it and hire a guy like O without even a search.
