If it was confusing to some that we fired Miles when we did, I question their intelligence. And I imagine they don't give 2fs about LSU.
Les is laughing all the way to the bank and now Alleva looks like the assclown! We all knew that already but it looks like Miles got the better end of this deal and the true LSU fans got screwed.....again!!! Guys we have to do better putting OUR university in capable hands!
So...LSU fans knew why Miles was fired. That's true, but public perception in places outside of Louisiana was that we were fools. I live in Dallas/Fort Worth. People up here couldn't believe we fired Miles. Furthermore, three months later, they really couldn't believe that we hired Orgeron. No, those outside people don't give 2 f's about LSU, but their perspective from the outside of the program may actually allow them to see our situation more clearly and without the cloudiness of being too close to the program and, thus, being too passionate to use their heads, instead of their hearts.
What did those same people say about Texas firing Mack Brown? If firing either he or Miles was a big mistake they would have been offered jobs by now.
How hard do you really think two guys in their 60's (heck, Brown may be 70) are really looking for coaching jobs? Especially when they are being paid to not coach. And Texas has been worse than they were before they fired Mack Brown. These days, Texas fans are pretty freakin' quiet, in general.
Similar situation here in Houston. Most agreed it was time for Miles to go but when we hired Orgeron the flood gates opened. LSU looked and still very much does look like total idiots!
Les' teams never felt like this - for me. This is a completely different vibe from the head down. This team has no soul bc the guy running the show is a fraud. I'd like to believe he could figure it out but I don't like lying to myself.
My point was that the perception of people outside of the fanbase area is different from that of people who follow the teams closely. An outsider like Taint only looks at the overall record and not at the way the program is slowing declining from year to year. Sports are not an occupation where you can rest on your laurels, no matter how many laurels you have garnered during your career. If Tom Brady doesn't one day retire he will be cut, no matter how many superbowls he has won in the past. Miles should have been fired after the 2014 season. Even the most casual fan could see the demise of the the program following the annual loss to Alabama the team completely quit while being shutout at Arkansas. A good AD would have already had Miles replacement picked and onboard with being hired and he details of his contract worked out while keeping quiet about the whole process until it was fait accompli. Like the way the Georgia AD handled the firing of Mark Richt and the hiring of Kirby Smart.
Same here in Tennessee @StaceyO, a lot of Ole Miss and Vol fans here and they can't control their laughing when looking at our situation. First of all Ole Miss knows the issues with O, and Tennessee would have traded Jones for Miles. My neighbor is a Vol alum and his wife is AU, not sure how that happened, but both are licking their chops to play us. Said they don't get too many guarantee wins but we are already marked as a win! I know in many of your post you alluded to having a bad feeling of going back to the 90s and I shared the same feeling with you. I remember those days too well to dismiss what a terrible mistake we may have made. My only comfort is hopefully this will cost those responsible.
Yeah well they fired Mack because he wasn't competing for nattys. Having that as your benchmark is good, IMO. Unfortunately, politics can really flub things up. I'm very glad we fired Miles, appreciate what he did for us (a little bitter and raw right now), and am willing to live through the crap we're going through currently. If our Adminstrators are too dumb to get it right, I'd rather that be aired for the world to see than suffer Miles half-assing it time after time.
