You would think that this is where the flexibility of the human poll could "take matters into consideration". Okie State lost a few days after hearing that their coaches were yet again the victims of a terrible fate. If I were a voter, that would weight heavy on my mind when considering the loss to Istate. If that game was played again, today, there would be no doubt that Okie State would win. OTOH ... Bama lost to LSU at home, with no modifying circumstances. They just flat out lost ... at home, ... in their stadium. If that game was played again, there is a high probability that the result would be the same. That is the strength of the human poll .... how it should work.
So, using Sagarin's poll as the yardstick, and the author's criteria of wins against ranked teams, which of the following two teams deserves a shot at LSU Team A: 6-1 against Sagarin's top 30 teams Team B: 7-1 against Sagarin's top 30 teams Also, Sagarin puts WAY too much emphasis on conference strength. Note that he has a 6-6 Texas A&M at #12, ranked ahead of several 2 loss teams. 11-1 VT is at 22. So, do y'all really want to hang your hat on Sagarin's computer poll? If the answer is yes, then it should be noted that Bama is #2 in his poll. BTW, Team A above is OSU, Team B is OU. So, which one deserves the shot more?
Alabama, it wouldn't matter if bama was unbeaten and had beat every top ten team in the nation. I wouldn't want Alabama to play anyway. It's not about is bama deserving. It's about I hate bama. Sorry but that's it , honestly, in a nutshell.
Here's a "what if" for you: What if Bama had beaten us 9-6 in OT on 11/5. Do you think, if you went on tidefans.com, you would find gumps arguing in favor of a rematch?
OSU lost because they got outplayed not because of a tragedy. Do you think they were thinking of the tragedy in the 4th quarter and overtime when they could have won the game? Heck no. They lost because Iowa State was the better team that day. We won because we outplayed Bama when it mattered.
If we lose to ga in triple ot this week , the entire gump nation, every last rotten phucking one of them would be saying that we should be the ones sitting out. Book it.
Perhaps not. The real question is would LSU fans be asking for a rematch? There is little doubt in my mind that LSU fans would argue that they're a more worthy opponent than OSU for the championship game.
Alabama is Obviously the #2 team in the Country With Oklahoma State, Stanford and Virginia Tech in the top five, its obvious that they aren't even close to Alabama. Between these teams, there are zero impressive wins or any proof of defense. Now, that doesn't mean Alabama should be allowed to play LSU again.
