the question becomes does the quality of loss override the strength of schedule, quality wins, etc? Alabama lost at home to the #1 team in the country. Oklahoma State lost on the road to a middle of the pack team in the highest ranking conference in the country (arguably). Obviously Alabama wins that argument and it's not even close. But the opposing strength of schedule and quality of wins isn't close either and in Oklahoma State's favor. What is worth more? I call it a draw. And since it's a draw, my tie breaker is not allowing Alabama a 2nd shot to a team they already lost to at home. My tie breaker is allowing a conference champion from the strongest conference in America (arguably) a shot at LSU. My tie breaker is watching the best offense in college football go up against the best defense.
I completely agree with your assessment. I just wanted people to consider that the quality of loss matters in the big picture too. Like I said earlier, I am ALL for whatever causes Bama fans to suffer more. I think Bama is #2 but I would rather have Okie State (Big 12 champ) as our opponent and there are enough arguments for them that it would be viable.
I voted for 'B'. Best over all. I thought for sure it was Alabama. Go figure. OK State would be nice to play in the BCSNCG. Go TIGERS. The baddest Beast in the Swamp.
Looking at it this way really makes you understand how tough CLM's job really is. How do you manage to keep them all happy when they all know they can/should start?
Clever poll. Supports my argument that those convinced Alabama is a slam dunk better choice than Ok. State and that Alabama is the OBVIOUS #2 team are not basing their opinion on fact, but on Saban Koolaid. If OK St beats OU, they'll have the right to be outraged they got passed over so a non-conference champion Alabama can get a second chance, whereas OK. St. doesnt even get a first chance.
And then you'd know what school you're voting for, bringing in the built-in bias this guy is trying to eliminate. It also defeats the second point of the exercise, which is to try to have you evaluate the teams on their full body of work, not just by cherry-picking the results of one or two selected games.
Here is a question, if ou and osu would switch places would the polls still be the same? If the schedules and win/losses were swaped would ou be getting more respect? I think if the teams were swaped that the media would have ou ahead of bama. If ou had only lost the tt game they would be number two. Ou is a media darling, osu not so much. If lsu wouldve lost to bama by 3 and won out after that, lsu wouldn't be number two like bama is. Lsu would be out. Bama is a media darling so they get a pass. I relate to osu. They have to play second fiddle to ou , even when they're better than ou. They don't get the love by espn that ou gets. Lsu is in the same boat with bama. Bama gets the pass. Bama lost to lsu and there were still arseclowns that said bama was the better team. I want to see lsu/osu play because all the tide/ sooner blowers in the media would have to swollow a bitter mouthful. I want them to see that their favorite sec and big12 teams were left out of the dance and the spoilers were playing for the crystal. Remember that the coaches thought ou was the best and ap thought bama was the best before the season started.
