Losses dont seem like a big deal to the committee, so I wouldnt be surprised to see Ohio St. sneak in. I dont like the bonus points for being a conference champion. If we finished third in the SEC West behind Auburn and Alabama, but were the 4th best team, who gives a damn if you won your conference. We should be in and it wouldnt be our fault another conference wasnt as hard to win. I hate the conference championship doesnt mean as much anymore, but you either put the four best teams in or do some stupid 8 team playoff where every conference champion gets in plus the next best teams.
... you mean like establishing a real playoff. If all sides agree any contract can be changed,.. but I heard we're stuck with a 4 team playoff until something like 2025
They’ve said they have no desire to change it. Though at some point they will. At least it’s not as bad as the basketball tournament used to be where you had to win your conference to get in, otherwise you were out. In those days the ACC has 5 of the best 10 teams some years and it was a stupid format not allowing some teams to be in.
If you are not the best in your conference, what entitles you to play to be best in the country? Bama do over because we couldn’t get it done the first time. I’m of the opinion that the season schedule is your playoff, otherwise teams would take the week off. I like every game being important.
well I’d youre one of the four best teams I think you should get in. If the big ten had the #21 team with 3 losses win their conference and the sec had two teams from the West in the top 3, id certainly want the #3 team that couldn’t play for a conference title because the division was so good to get a chance to win the championship over The #21 team from another conference. It’s why they have the wild card in the nfl. The nfc south is absurdly tough this year and if the saints finish 2nd with 11 wins behind a team with 12 wins, they should still get in the playoffs. It would be dumb for them to stay home and have another division winner get in with an 8-8 record
It’s hard saying #3 is actually #3; there is subjectivity in rankings. I believe in conference championships AND strength of performance (+good wins, -bad losses).
I think the bowl selection committee looks at the conference standings as well being that the Sugar Bowl takes winner of SEC champion if they do not compete in playoff format. So if Georgia and Bama both get in that means Georgia would be next in line for Sugar and LSU would would get Cotton Bowl.
Ohio State wins they get in over Bama, because they'll have something that the Gumps won't, a conference championship.
Ohio State has 2 losses and one of those losses has them getting blown out to Iowa. No chance in hell the committee puts them in the top 4. Even with a win over Wisconsin.
It would frost my nuts to see the Gumps get in while sitting at home during championship weekend. Again.
