How is it going to sort itself out? Chancey Aghayere, Chase Clement, Lavar Edwards and Cordian Hagans is a very good DLine class. Aghayere's already very good, but with some technique development he can be great. Clement is a great athlete, Lavar Edwards has the potential to be one of the best we've ever had at DE if he puts it all together, and Cordian Hagans has only played football for 2 years and is a BEAST. Adding Liuget would be nice, and don't forget we got Kentravis Aubrey last year. As for OLine, last year's crop was simply awesome (five 4 stars) and 3 of them redshirted. This year's class of Alex Hurst, P.J. Lonergan, Thomas Parsons, Clay Spencer, and probably Shaw is very good, but doesn't have a real headliner. We missed on some big time OT's, but we're still in good shape. Thomas Parsons - AWESOME with every physical attribute you could want in an OLine, just raw. There's no film on Alex Hurst, but Tennessee wanted him bad & everything I've heard has been good. P.J. & Clay are both very good and excelled at LSU's camp.
Well, that makes me feel alot better about our quality on the lines. I did not really keep up with last years signings as much as I am this year and did not realize we did that well on the o-line.
As far as linebackers, it just does not seem like you need the same numbers as you do on the lines. Between last year's, this year's, and next year's classes, it seems we will be able to fill whatever needs we have at linebacker, so that is what I mean by it will work itself out. We will either recruit someone in the future, or someone will convert from another position if needed. It seems to me that the lines are harder to fill because of shear size needed, the attention to technique details, etc.
I don’t really follow recruiting that closely and I am sure others on TF have more resources, but FWIW I did find this on Alex Hurst – ****************************** Memphis Commercial Appeal – January 31, 2008 Shelby – Metro Most Wanted ****************************** He is also listed as playing in the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl High School All Star Game in December – did not find any game reports. ***************************************** Here is an article on his commitment to LSU --- The link: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2007/oct/09/hillcrest-arlington-seniors-heading-to-lsu/ The article indicates he “had interest” from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Notre Dame and Tennessee. Another article in August briefly mentions he is “considering” offers from LSU, Notre Dame and Tennessee. This is the new Arlington High’s first graduating class. *************************************** Here is a quote form an article in August about his team prospects for the season in Class 5A Football:
It's easier to convert players to OLine than it is to convert players to LB. TE's & DLine can convert to OLine, where as maybe a FB or a big Safety could convert to LB. I don't understand why you think we can fill our LB needs within this & next year's class, but not OLine? Sure, we need more of them, but we've recruited 3 times as many in this & the past class.
There's now some chatter on Brandon Harris going on over at tigerbait, and Sonny no longer feels confident in Jermaine Thomas.
Latest: 1) Shaw - OL 75 % (LSU, WVU, USF) 2) Liuget - DL 50 % (LSU, USF, Illinois, Miami) 3) Thomas - RB 40 % (LSU, FSU) 4) Robinson - LB 35 % (LSU, Miami, USC) 5) Bryant - DB 30 % (LSU, Bama, FSU, Miami, USC) 6) Harris - DB 25 % (LSU, Miami, OSU, USF) 7) Barron - LB 10 % (LSU, Bama, Auburn) 8) McClain - OL 5 % (LSU, Tennessee, Clemson, Auburn) LSU has made great inroads to Robinson and Harris. Miami has 7 LBs in their current class (LSU has 3), so I think LSU is getting the message across that he sees early PT. Looking pretty good for LSU right now. USC is still a wild card, however. I would take Robinson over any of the top 3 in that list. He's a difference maker at a position we don't have many. I would clearly take Harris over Bryant. McClain is the better OL, but Shaw is definitely a potential stud. LSU could (and would) take 5 more players potentially. OL, RB, LB, DB, DL Taking a guess, LSU signs 3 of these 8.
