The last call of the game perfectly represented Coach Miles deluded perception of what it takes to win. Just like going for it on fourth down over-and-over against Florida last year. Although we won at the time, I knew he would eventually gamble one away...
You've got to be kidding . . . a play that works about once a decade versus the best kicker in LSU history?
Nope. It was simply a hopeless situation. We needed to have completed about a 15-yard pass in order to do that. Personally, I'd have rather seen the Hail Mary, but it's fruitless to try to make connections between going for it on 4th down against Florida in '06 and going for a 63-yard FG into the wind yesterday.
Yeah, seeing as how we couldn't protect our QB long enough to complete a 10 yard pass... that 46 yard TD reception we would've needed would be just the perfect call... and then he'd really be calling Miles out. LOL. Even though it was missed, was fairly impressive to see a 63 yard FG right down the middle miss by only about 5 yards... which means CD has around a 58 yard range. He's gonna be missed for sure.
You think he was gonna make a 63 yard FG into the wind? So you would be saying the same thing about a 70 yarder with no wind? That, my friend, is crazy. Hail mary's work more often than you think. Ask the Saints.
Ask Mr. Flutie flakes... but regardless of the call I think it would've taken just as much of a miracle to catch the TD pass as it would've been to make the FG.
