no wonder. i didn't really read the paper when i was a frosh in high school (when he was on his way out,) and i had absolutely ZERO inclination to be a sportswriter until my soph year at Nicholls. but i see he's not a native, so i won't hold that against him.
The biggest fault in Feinswog's logic is that he's assuming you must have definitive answers to all of your questions before the season even begins in order to have a successful campaign. Just because we have a new DC doesn't mean that we won't have a damn strong defense. Hell, we won the NC in Crowton's first year. And just because JJ is relatively inexperienced doesn't necessarily mean that he won't provide a vast improvement over what we had last year at that position. By assuming that we won't see much improvement from last year, he's being every bit as foolish as he's accusing others of being who think that we'll only lose 2 games.
I've looked at the schedules of everyone in our conference, and YES, I agree that our road to Atlanta, GA is tougher than Ole Miss and/or Alabama's. But, there are so many reasons I believe LSU will have a great season this year- 1.) The terrible taste in our mouths from 2008. I believe there are 85 players, 10 coaches, and numerous staff members eager to prove that '08 was a fluke. 2.) We have a damn strong group of Seniors at most of the key spots: WR B. Lafell, LT C. Black, TE R. Dickson, RG L. Hitt, RB's- Scott, KW and Holiday. On defense we have DE Alem, DT's Woods and Alexander, LB's Cutrera, Coleman and Riley, and DB's Hawkins and McCray. That's 15 Seniors and many of them were contributors on a BCS Championship team 2 years ago. 3.) Major changes were made to correct mistakes from 2008. We hired Chavis and a whole new defensive staff, and Jefferson will be our starter at QB. 4.) The damn strong 2009 recruiting class. I wonder if Feinswog considered any of the above, or any of the issues the other teams face going in to 2009? :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
It was Feinswog who, about 20 years ago, called out the student section in his column for getting a little too profane with their cheers at basketball games. The students responded by taping their mouths shut at the next game, leading to an uncharacteristically not-Deaf Dome and an uninspired loss for the Tigers. Definitely one of the lowest of low points in the history of LSU fan-dom. Back to 2009....I agree with Okie, we will improve this year by more than one measly win, and not because its our inalienable right to do so. We will do it because last year's poor performance was based on 2 major problems: catastrophic mistakes at the quarterback position and a complete loss of mission on defense. Both problems were abberations that IMandprettymucheveryoneelse'sO, have been addressed. 10-2, SECCG and Sugar Bowl....not out of the question.
i think a more likely pessimistic scenario is winning 1 or 2 of the tough 4 and losing to auburn or arky. this teams lines are too good, the coaches are too good and there are too many good skill players to lose all four of the biggest games.
