And I contend we don't use the FB position enough to be worthy of said need.

    No.

We really need to try and get another RB in this class. But it appears too late to do that.

Why do we need another back? I say Pratt or Richardson or none. Then get Seastrunk and power back next year and hillard looks like a stud.

I agree, it is Pratt or TR or we are done at RB in this class.

    Unlikely we land TR.

    Singleton is a Lock IMO.

I agree no matter how much the FB is used LSU needs a 2 deep at the position. With all the other needs I dont think we need 2 FBs in this class however. Ridley can be used at FB so its not a glaring need like LB. If we have spaces and he is the best available player then I can see taking Singleton. As is I dont at all think he is a need.

Well I posed the question to Mike S about Duplessis and Benton and how they count, and he indicated that both will count towards the total of 25 in 2009.

I don't know why he said that because we should have one slot available in 2008 to use.

If true, we are at 22 scholarships. Randle and Mingo make 24. That leaves one more scholarship to hand out before being forced to greyshirt. Montgomery and Myles are still very much in the mix and LSU is pushing hard for both. Logan might only accept a scholarship in 2009 and not a greyshirt.

Only thing I can see is the coaches maybe dont feel good about Montgomery and or Myles. I dont see Sua Filo or Jones at all being a part of this class and Im sure the coaches have known that a long time ago. They may also a lot of potential in Singleton and dont want to lose him.

Personally, Id rather see them wait it out and see what happens with some of the players that are higher ranked and more of a need. With Ridley, I dont at all see FB a need. Although if all the rumors about Pratt are true then thats an extra slot available.

Are we taking Singleton to replace Pratt as our power back?

ESPN's scouting report makes Pratt and Singleton sound very similar:

PRATT: Pratt is not overly-flashy or explosive but he is a strong, consistent back that keeps coming at you and can wear down a defense. He is tall, thickly-built, well-proportioned and put together. Not an overly sudden runner, but shows good vision and patience letting his blocks set up until he finds the seam then hits it. Can hurt you as in-line runner with good strength and power ... is most effective when he plants, accelerates downhill and runs through arm tackles with his great size and lower-body power. Good feel for the cutback lane ... Pad level and body-tilt is great and you can't coach his leg drive and determination finishing runs. Lacks a second gear and great burst but can build up good speed in the second level. ... Our main issue when projecting for the next level is his lack of top-end speed and good acceleration ... Loses a bit in transition when cutting in the openfield and we would like to see him run more north-south and decisive at times. ...

SINGLETON: Singleton is a bruising back ... possesses good height is compact, thickly-built and very strong throughout his upper and lower body. Shows good urgency out of his stance for a bigger back and presses the hole. Squares up quickly out of his cuts finding the north-south seam. ... runs with adequate vision and has a feel for the cutback. Builds speed and can be a load to bring down when he breaks free into the second level. Breaks through in-line arm-tackles with his low center of gravity, good shoulder lean and thick, powerful lower-body. Moves the pile with good leg drive and finishes runs; feet never stop on contact allowing him to frequently bounce free when defenders appear to have him wrapped up. However, he possesses marginal top-end speed and is missing an extra gear when gets outside. ... More of a one-gear back. For a downhill, power runner we wish he were a bit more explosive. Limited to power-running schemes at the college level...

    Interesting post, John.

Singleton's films (quality of them) suck. So it's tough to agree or disagree. All I can say is that Singleton's film (performance) is the least impressive to me of the four prospects (Ford, Pratt, Allen and Singleton).
