I thought Orgeron and Kiffin were boys from their USC days and that Orgeron was a lock to go to Tenn with Kiffin?

Orgeron isn't a lock to UT although he very well may end up there. He was quoted as saying if LSU wanted to talk to him he be glad to discuss things with us.

Great news if true! I would love to see O here as DL coach but if nothing else just for recruiting, as he will no doubt make inroads in the state.

Basically, I was reading this article that got published today on ESPN's Football Recruiting site, and the author wrote that:

What Kiffin has working to his advantage, however, are his age, his NFL experience and his staff, which will reportedly include his dad, legendary NFL defensive coach Monte Kiffin, and former Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron -- one of the nation's top recruiters -- who is currently with the New Orleans Saints, but worked with Kiffin at USC.
    ...
Orgeron's track record speaks for itself in terms of recruiting. He has a real feel for the student athlete and has always been able to relate well with players. He also has been able to sell the program and himself to the decision-maker. That's not always the parents. Sometimes it's a coach, uncle or grandmother, but regardless, he's always been able to get that person to buy in. He simply loves recruiting and is one of the best at it. He and Kiffin did great things at USC, and it will be interesting to see if they can bring that national success to Tennessee.

Oh don't get me wrong he has a working relationship and respect for Kiffen, and I agree with you, more than likely he'll end up at UT with him... but he was directly quoted as saying He would be interested in talking with LSU if we approached him, and that his family absolutely loves it here in Louisiana.
Only time will tell, but imo, IF we make him an offer he'll be hard not to get. Said he has a great deal of respect for Miles and always liked LSU. But if we don't offer him something, more than likely he'll go to UT.

An LSU blog published an interesting article on Orgeron yesterday. Part of it said:

"rumors abounded after Orgeron was fired by Ole MIss last year that he and Miles had a sit-down meeting and that Miles expressed interest at that time in having Orgeron on the staff, perhaps in the capacity now occupied by Joe Robinson, who was hired later. If this rumor was true, and if the current rumors are true, clearly Miles has some considerable degree of respect and admiration for Orgeron"
