why would you release Favre, especially when a division rivals would love to have him? Does that mean just no one is willing to trade for him?

Trade that fool for a ham sandwich and a bag of Cheetos if it gets him out of your division.

If Farve dresses up in someone elses colors there will be riots in the streets of Green Bay. I didn't think he would do it but nothing is impossible and still nothing is on paper...Yet

I would think a trade is highly unlikely knowing that Favre would only be there a year or so and have to deal with no knowing and the drama if he is going to come back for the seasons after next.

I absolutely hate it when a pro athlete doesn't know when it's time to quit. Favre had a good season last year, likely the best he'd ever see again, and it was time to say goodbye.

Jerry Rice should've retired a 49er; Montana, too, but sometimes these guys just don't get it. Emmitt Smith a Cardinal? Please...he was a Cowboy. Rice was a Niner. Favre a Packer.

It's called retirement, Brett; enjoy it--you get to do it before the age of 40, one of the lucky few.

They said a trade might be an option but I think any team that does so would be losing a lot in the process for maybe one year of having a QB.

Why quit when you can still play and help someone win?

He is in no way embarrassing himself like the others you listed.

If he can go to a good team, I am all for him playing.

Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, and Emmitt Smith all played and contributed at the places they went. My point is that I hate to see players go on past their prime, especially when they end up playing for a different team.

I think their is a part of the psyche of great athletes that makes it hard for them to leave the game. Heck, look at Paterno--he absolutely doesn't know when to stop (should've been ten years ago); Bobby Bowden is treading into similar territory now.

I just hate seeing athletes take up with a team that wasn't "their" team, just to play an extra couple of years.

It makes me admire the Tiki Barbers and Barry Sanders of the world.

Not sure why he should hang it up. If Brady didn't have the best season of all-time last year Favre would have been MVP. I hate this expression, but age really is just a number. So this situation really is no different than someone like Drew Brees re-negotiating a deal this year. It isnt similar to when Emmitt hung around when the only reason he did it was to break records. If Emmitt's name was different he would not have been able to land an Arena football job at the time - Favre is still playing at a high level.

Now if he were washed up, I would agree. Other than the fact that I think most of would selfishly like to see him retire as a Packer, there isn't really a good reason out there as to why he should retire if he doesn't want to. He is definitely no McNair.

I am also not sure why the Packers do not want him. What is Aaron Rodgers? 23? 24?

One or two more years of waiting and being on a quality, quality football team can not hurt.

Tony Romo is one of the up and comings in the NFL. He sat and waited for years.
