Long before there was TigerFan, Don Long's site is where we got our LSU news online. He never failed to return one of my emails, even if he only had time for a line or two. Hell of a guy.
I agree with all of you above. Mr. Long was a man who truly bled purple and gold. Even when tiger tragedy happened (like the ole miss game spike scenario, the preseason fight last year, or this past NC game) he was always posting the very next day keeping a positive attitude. I admired him so much for that. Also as was said above he has always taken the time to respond to every single email I have ever sent him (which I also admire) whether that be congratulations or sympathies. I can only imagine how hard things have been for him since he lost his wife and having to see her deteriorate before his eyes, but the fact that he kept his faith and always prayed for her really impressed me. He was a class act. I think I can say Tiger Nation sends out our deepest condolences to his son and family. He really will be missed. Rest in peace Mr. Long.
Spot on. But when LSU coverage expanded on the Internet I became an infrequent visitor to Don's site. One thing that remained constant however was that Don bled Purple & Gold. That and he was a man of principle who believed the values that today are considered old fashioned.
I've been reading his blog for many years now, and shared a few email exchanges through those years. Great Tiger and great man. You will be missed, Don.
