Report: TAF willing to buy out Miles' contract. http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/lsu-football/report-les-miles-era-nearing-end-buyout-no-issue/
Fair point. I still think we can take a look there. There are a ton of good coaches out there just waiting for a shot.
Hes a Stanford alum and west coasters dont often make a successful transition to the deep south. Trent Johnson comes to mind. Same schools, similar situation though different sports. Just a clash of cultures especially with recruiting and the finer points. Im not sure who is the right fit for LSU but i know left coasters arent often the answer. their stay would likely be short even if successful. I guess its jimbo or bust for me. He would certainly be a good fit given his familiarity here. things i cant overlook however-- --the buyout for both Miles and Fisher ~20 mill. would be unprecedented for LSU. Maybe the 31 mill from the sec network per team is allowing alleva to swing his dick. I dunno. --JF has it made at FSU. He can be bobby bowden v2.0, coach there 20 years with a new years day bowl game or better almost annually. while we might run that bastard out after a week if he lines up in that strong-I formation just one time. --he has a special needs son and just had a divorce where he wouldnt be able to see his kids. dont see how thats manageable. --Haden and USCw are also interested in JF and are reportedly going after him as well. he doesnt seem like he'd fit there however. --our dumbo BoS and the lacrosse fella makes everyone uneasy. got a lot of hurdles to jump to get their guy. Just gonna have to hold on and wait. Cant imagine a coaching hire going as planned. they never do unless you're michigan and harbaugh. Its always some unknown name that ends up getting the gig. But I dont really want any surprise hires here. Now we can just sit back and be overly critical while we stress the f out. amirite.
I know no one has mentioned him, but want about Strong at UT? I think he's a really good coach in a challenging position at TX. If you can recruit and win at UL, you can certainly do it at LSU. I would personally like to see him on our list. Seems like a quality dude w/the "right" approach to winning, and is defensive minded.
Interesting. I like Strong as well. I do think that his less than successful stint so far at Texas might damage his ability to recruit. That would really concern me.
He hasn't been given the blanket support at UT though. He'd recruit great here, and has built up some TX ties now. He also has prior SEC ties, and is a proven winner as a HC. He'd be on my short list, personally, along w/Fisher. I don't like the idea of Kiffen, Mullen, or Freeze (he's not leaving his alma mater anyway). Love Shaw, but he ain't leaving his alma mater in beautiful Palo Alto. Franklin is promising, but I think he is committed to rebuilding PSU, and won't leave. Mid-major HCs are risky, but could pay off.... or not. For me, Strong or Fisher.
Out of all the names I have seen, strong is one that I think resembles what a good leader is. He is just in a fucked up situation at UT. I would think the type of guys we try to recruit would fit well under him. But again, I genuinely thought our players liked Miles, but last night was the first night I just saw frustration on a number of players faces and not a leader on the field. Not even our coach.
