Some have been saying new coach needs to keep Wilson, Ogeron, & Moffitt. I think Admin can recommend this, even strongly, but the new guy needs autonomy. If you're making this move, you need to make a good hire and not get in the fucking way with too many stipulations. Chemistry in the coaching staff is very important; if you have a QB with all the tools that don't have it between the ears, dude very well could be a liability.

I have a whole new appreciation for Steve Spurrier now. The guy realized that the program was headed in the wrong direction and needed a change of head coach. I wish Les would realize the same. Sadly, I don't think he understands this.

My list would look something like:

    1. Gary Patterson
    2. David Shaw
    3. Jimbo
    4. Bill Callahan (do some research on Callahan before bashing this. The guy can coach and is a tier 1 recruiter...ask Barry Alvarez.)
    5. Lane Kiffen (it pains me to type this, but also a great recruiter who has matured as a coach under Saban)
    6. Mark Dantonio (hiring a Michigan State HC seemd to work very well for us before)

Where are the fans that used to state that if Miles was gone, Saban would come rushing back?

Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall anyone saying this.

I use to always want Patterson but I've lost interest with his lack of defense. TCU always had a great D, but now they are all O with no D.

Shaw won't leave alma mater Stanford until he is ready for the NFL. If he is interested he would be a top tier choice.

    Jimbo is not leaving FSU.

    I'll pass on Callahan.

I never would have thought I'd ever want Kiffen anywhere near LSU but I agree, looks like he has mature. Great offensive minded coach who will bring good assistants and keep recruiting high. Kiffen is right up there for me with Smart, Franklin, and Fuente

    I doubt Dantonio leaves.

I know many are after a proven big time coach with the likes of Fisher, etc. I just don't think that is the right direction. First of all, Fisher had long time ties to FSU before he got there, and his path to the NC is much easier through the ACC than the SEC, particularly the West right now. His recruiting is easier as well as both Florida and Miami are struggling, as is Georgia. He can pretty much dominate that area, and it is ripe with talent.

I honestly believe we need to go after a younger, mid-major type of coach, or a hot shot OC/DC from a bigger school and give them a shot. We need someone that is hungry, and I don't think many of those guys who have been mentioned are the way to go. Getting an SEC guy is not high on my priority list. The conference is changing, though I wish it wouldn't. Arky and MSU put up a 100 points together yesterday. Arky had a QB pass for about a million yards. We have to be able to play lights out D to stop that sort of thing, but the QB play in the SEC is much better than it has been, and we also have to be able to move the ball to keep up.

Don't get me wrong, I want a killer D. I want a suffocating D that stops the run, and challenges WR's at the line of scrimmage, and never lets them get a free release. I want a D that never plays prevent unless it is the last play of the half or game or we are in punt-safe. But, I also know we need to be able to move the ball and have some creativity on O. I don't think that is going to happen by going conventional. The younger guys are the ones who are innovating right now, and we need to go out and find one of them. There are tons of incredible coaches at the lower levels, and we would be foolish not to take all of that into consideration.

About the only guy I would be interested in who is a current HC at a big program is Shaw from Stanford, and I don't think we would get him. I absolutely love the way they play on both O and D. Maybe if we backed up the money truck we would have a shot, but unfortunately, I don't think that would work either. But, it is definitely worth a major try if we had even a remote chance.

I agree. I am the one suggesting we keep them, but it would obviously be up to whomever the HC is. I just think it would be a very smart move on his part to do so.

Why is everyone so high on Moffit? Every linemen we send to the NFL gets laughed at in the weight room because they can't lift worth a damn.
