Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. Kiffin has autonomy over the offense. Cameron does not. It's hard to judge the capability of a ooach when somebody else is pulling the puppet strings.
It's called playing not to lose. Everyone has seen it before and everyone knows it's a recipe for disaster, but for some it's ingrained into their DNA. Despite a want to do things differently, when under pressure they fall back on their basic instincts.
I'm not doubting or arguing, I'm just curious. Does Kiffin really have autonomy? It's hard to believe that anyone as much of a control freak as Saban is hands off of anything on that team.
Did you see how much Kiffin and Saban jawed back and forth in Kiffins first season? I think it went against the grain and wad painful for him to do, but Saban isn't stupid and it's crystal clear that Kiffin has improved their offense. I'm sure Saban has a lot of input game planning on both sides of the ball, but this is Kiffins offense.
To game plan an offense a coordinator has to understand the defensive strategy likely to be used against him. Who better than Saban to help him with that
You can tell its Kiffin's offense, just watch them run it. Anyone remember any bunch sets while Saban was at LSU? Tons of motion?
Observing the sidelines is enough for me to realize that Kiffin is the trigger puller for that offense. No question.
Larry Fedora. He has made UNC exciting, and winning, but he will play second fiddle to hoops there until hell freezes over.
