I thought it was too but Saban has given him control as well, now Saban may tell him to stop throwing the ball and go back to the run, but you can tell by the formations and motion that it's Kiffin's offense.
Well, I could throw in basically another 1,000 yard rusher in T.J. Yeldon(979) to match your 2nd 1,000 yard WR.
That's all good...that you like to point out stats and everything, but that doesn't tell the whole story. I loved the individual talent and productivity of the 2013 LSU offense, but they still didn't get it done in the most crucial times: Bama, Ole Miss. The last drive vs. Georgia when all we needed was a FG to tie. Also, pts are what really matter more than yards. Bama scored 36.9/game, 517 total in 14 games. We scored 465 pts in 13 games for a 35.7/gm avg. Mett and ODB were hurt for the bowl game vs. Iowa, so adjusting that out, we scored 444 pts in 12 games for a 37/gm avg. Still, basically a push. Watching games and the eye test tell you who has been the better SEC O-coordinator. It pains me to say it and I HATE saying it, but it is true.
There is an interview somewhere with Kirby Smart where he says he is glad LSU stopped throwing the football in 2012 and 2013. Remember kids in 2012 LSU could have put the nail in the coffin with a TD, not to mention this was the game where it clicked for Mettenberger. He was feeling it, and Les took the ball out of his hands and tried to run clock and settle for a field goal in the last 2 minutes. If he just lets Zach at least try and pick up that 3rd down with his arm, which he very well could have, maybe LSU scores a TD or at the very least gets another first down to work more clock. But no, his over conservative ass pulls that bullshit and it bites LSU in the ass. Sure blame Chief for the defensive meltdown, but blame Miles for not having the stones to win a fucking football game. It makes you wonder what the fuck is this guy thinking? Or does he even think at all? If you have an opportunity to finish your arch enemy, you fucking finish them.
What sucks is that what happened at the end of the Clemson game and the end of the Georgia game the next season further reinforce the mindset to run clock and not try to end the game and be aggressive. Remember we tried to throw for the 1st on our last drive vs Clemson and we also could not complete a pass on 4 straight attempts vs Georgia at the end of the game. Those type results only put our offensive philosophy further from change.
I think LSU was 7th in the SEC in total offense in that lauded best offensive sec team of all time. what a spin job. we are so desperate for offense, we hang on to worthless stats like we got a NC trophy for that. we didnt even finish 2nd in the west. no 5th or 6th place trophies to share with mark richt?
That was a hell of an offense, and those benchmarks (3,000 QB, Two 1,000 WR, 1,000 RB) are pretty cool. But a yard is a yard. And that team was not the most productive in SEC history on offense. Just in that season, Texas A&M scored 10 more PPG and gained 85 more YPG. (Also just barely outgaining and outscoring LSU that year: Bama) http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/texas-am/2013.html http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/louisiana-state/2013.html http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/alabama/2013.html
