All 16 of mine stayed until the end, to include a little dude on the way, (my next grandson) who got all riled up and started kicking like crazy when the band came in, DESPITE the efforts of his father (Georgia grad) who put his hands where he thought the little mans ears would be. We sat at the top of the N endzone where that cold south wind blew on us all night..................and until the time ran out!!:geaux:
If fans keep leaving early for ANY reason, the AD should give their seats back to the students. The student section used to be 1/4 of the stadium...and it was as packed as can be. I think it's a disgrace that they're now crowded into the corner of the end zone. At least put the band back at midfield !!!!! :tigereye:.
The students are usually the first to leave. Besides, how are you going to make up for the lost revenue if you sell less full price tickets? You'd have to raise the ticket prices on the other seats to make up the difference. So basically you'd be punishing the people that went and stayed the whole game. Not sure what time period your referring to but I know they've been in the corner of the endzone since at least 1994 when I started school. When was the band ever at mid field? They used to be at about the goal line before. they just moved them to the other side of the student section into the middle of the north endzone. It allows the whole stadium to hear them better where they are now.
I admit it...my post was more provocative than realistic.. I went to LSU from 1972-1976. That's when the student section was as I described and the band was at midfield. The student section was absolutely the rowdiest part of the stadium. It was when, as someone posted, the whole stadium used to yell "TIGER BAIT!" at the opposing team any time they entered the field for warmup or kick off. And it was lower bowl only...no upper deck. I just think the students got the shaft in the name of revenue. I hadn't been to a game in Death Valley since 1979 and when I went to the USL game I was really shocked at seeing the tiny displaced student section. Back then, some students left early but most were real hard core Tiger fans and stayed. I don't think the fraternities let any of their members lreave early because they made the pledges stake out areas for them. That was rough work for the pledges because the GDI's used to hassle them a lot about saving all that space for the frats. There were a lot of fights among the students back then in the student section...pretty entertaining :hihi:. It's totally different now !!
I ddin't find it cold. My wife and my female friend were both cold though. Barely any wind so it wasn't too bad for all of us.
The students are worse about showing up late and leaving early than anybody. There is a a hard core of serious fams, to be sure, but huge sections are empty in all but the biggest games, which is the main reason why so many seats got taken away in the 90's. The students just didn't show.
Some things never change. It was that way back in the 80's, so I guess those who went to LSU in the 80's should take the blame, and still is. Probably always will be.
Not so much the case in the 2000's though. The students are the first to leave, but def are the first to be at the stadium. There are some that are late, but at that point, the student section is already full and those people will have standing room only or be standing in the aisles. In the 08 Bama game, they wouldn't let any students in until kickoff and we had to wait for about 30-40 minutes in line. Very frustrating to say the least.
No excuse, that was horrible. The crowd normally doesnt empty out like that in a close game, thats just pathetic by the fans. Dont buy the tickets so someone who will sit through the game could buy them instead.
? I don't remember this happening, I was in the Student section a good hour before kickoff for that one.
