Most black people who know of Assata Shakur claim she's innocent, and a victim of targeting by J. Edgar Hoover. I wasn't on the jury and didn't hear her case, but here are some of the interesting parts of her story and conviction: - She was targeted by J. Edgar Hoover in a program to eradicate protesters he viewed as dangerous. - As a famous Black Panther she had been previously accused in six different criminal cases and acquitted of them all. - The jury in the cop murder case was loaded with relatives and friends of state troopers. - FBI forensics showed that she didn't handle any weapons at the crime scene. - FBI forensics also backed up her claim that she was shot twice while surrendering with both hands in the air. Now, I'm not saying Shakur is innocent... I don't know.... but it's very easy to see why a person, black or white, would think she was wrongly convicted.
That's a whitewash Rexie. First of all she wasn't convicted of the shooting but abetting it and participation in the crime. That's a capital offense. She admits to robberies and working for the violent overthrow of the country. Also J Edgar died in 1972. Most of her criminal activity was after that.
