Not necessarily. The intentional underthrow on the deep route has become an effective weapon, as you saw with Byrd on the highlight reel someone linked to earlier.
Yes, I would agree. If he can manage the offense better, read the defenses better, and have more ability to be a dual-threat QB, then he should be the guy to lead this team. All Lee has to do is know/run the offense just as well as Hatch does, and the job is Lee's.
That's more of a timing issue. Looking at some of his video I saw him throw the bll over 45 yards on a couple of passes, he threw several easy 3-35 yards. He just needs to get used to the speed of each receiver and release the ball earlier. He can't hold onto it and try to muscle the ball like some strong armed QB's can.
A football not in the hands of a football player is a bad thing waiting to happen. In other words, releasing the ball earlier because his arm isn't strong enough to muscle it in there just translates into more opportunity for bad things to happen. That said, I am more than confident that Crowton will mold his offense around Hatch's capabilities...or lack thereof. He will do the same with Lee, Jefferson, or whomever is behind center.
Therein lies the problem. People on the ground who have been able to see him heave the ball say it looks like a throw that he is not comfortable with. It is not a natural throw (like the shorter passes) and he takes a while to get the ball out of his hand (yet another problem that Lee has him beat on, ball release).
Check these out. I was at the Spring Game. Both QBs started slow, but they then took turns out-playing each other. At the end of the day, I thought Hatch looked better, but maybe that was due to lower expectations for him. And he throws a couple of nice longish passes - lofty, but nice. He's gonna be O-Tay. We're gonna be fine at QB if we can stay healthy on the O-Line. Big offensive year, folks. Book it. Byrd and Lafell and the RBs are monsters. Hatch :thumb: Lee :thumb: :geauxtige
I've never thought too much of Gilbo, who readily admits he's never played a down of Football in his life but he may or may not be right. Maybe. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200880818003
So why did Jamarcus start in 2005 and 2006? I watched the Raiders play against Tennessee the other night. He still plays streetball on offense -- look at the first 2 receivers, hold the ball too long, scramble out of the pocket and fire a bullet in between heavy coverage... overthrow the quick slant... etc.
Flynn was the better manager, but his skill sets didn't jive with Jimbo's offense. We were a down-field team, and Flynn didn't come close to the brilliance in throwing that Russell did. Likewise, Russell would have completely flopped in Crowton's offense. I watched that game too...and watching him throw the ball is still a thing of beauty, IMO. Nobody can do the things he can do. Too bad he's not smarter...
