There is a similar guy, with the same style of play and similar arm strength... I believe he retired only to be traded and is now living it up in the clouds, with a date in the Hall of Fame to-be-announced.
When I saw him at the halftime of the LSU/Ohio State championship game, I just thought to myself, this guy is not very intelligent. He slurred his words, he didn't make much sense at all, and his appearance was startling, to say the least. I didn't say to myself, now there's a future hall of famer in the NFL. He didn't represent too well. He's not up against the Fighting Irish defense in the NFL. Too bad for him.
too bad for him that he won't be giving any speeches on an NFL field either. he was always a good student at LSU.
I see your point but will always pull for him unless he goes off the Albert Belle deep end. The one knock that I had was it always seemed like he telegraphed handoffs. The running game was much more cohesive last year with Flynn. With three potential blowout games, the debate will only intensify if all 3 QBs get playing time. With the O-Line, RBs, and WRs, Dickson, and Crowton, I've never been more excited about an offense. Other than QB, it would seem like almost every other starter (and a few backups) have NFL potential.
Man, I gotta go with Clair on this one. Jamarcus was a great LSU Tiger, and it's amazing to read here how HE lost certain games, but no mention of the games that, IMHO, HE won for us.:nope:
This is going to seem like backpedaling here, but I have to add that I loved JR as a Tiger, I just don't think he'll make it in the NFL unless he learns the things mentioned in this thread. He DID make poor decisions in our two '06 losses that went a long way toward deciding our defeat and kept us out of the title game...but without him we wouldn't have been in the position to complain about being so close but not close enough. It was kind of a double-edged sword with JR behind center. I wish him well...but it's obvious he's still trying to win games all by himself.
I don't think anyone expected him to be very articulate. But the real shame in that situation was that he was standing next to Troy Smith, who was decked out in OSU apparel, while Russell was wearing some African rainbow-warrior sweater that looked like it had just been purchased in the French Market. Not one thing about his appearance said 'I support LSU.' It's hard to imagine that being coincidental. Jamarcus was always at his best when the game was on the line; when there were no breaks between plays, and the pace was very fast. My theory on that was that it was because he didn't have to think a lot about what he was doing. Just snap the ball and make a quick pass. He very rarely engineered drives in the early parts of the games that resembled the late-game heroics...which often put him in the position of having to make said heroics.
