I think this needs a thread of it's own (clair has done a quite nice job with the overall thread).

    What we keep hearing is:

Hatch handles the short passes out to the backs slightly better than Lee does, although Lee is improving in that regard. Hatch just looks more natural at this point with these type passes.

Hatch has more mobility, although Lee is no statue back there.

Lee throws a better ball overall and has more zip and accuracy than Hatch.

Hatch looks uncomfortable throwing the long ball, anything past 25 yards, which is definitely not good. Lee has relatively good touch on the deep ball and can definitely heave it down the field.

Jefferson looks really good so far, although very raw. He has the strongest arm of the three QBs. He will be seeing PT in the early part of the season (first 3 games) it appears. He is picking things up quickly, but is probably a bit too far behind overall to challenge for the starting job at any point in the season. That could change, of course.

From everything I am hearing I would think we will be using a 2 QB system all year long, unless Lee can break away and show some quick maturity in reading defenses and having poise to handle pressure.

Overall, I think we will be ok at QB. The first 3 games of the season will be critical in developing one or both of these QBs for SEC play.

My hope is that Jefferson does not get significant playing time... for two reasons... 1. That means the older guys are REALLY bad... and 2. If Jefferson comes in and looks like a 4 year starter, does that scare away Russell Shepard?

anyway, just think what the qb situation is going to be like next year... talk about log jam.

that said, i really think this season is lee's although jefferson is this man. but from everything i hear the job is actually hatch's... point is who the hell knows?

I would like to see Hatch start, and ease J-Lee into 1st few games. I think J-Lee has more potential than Matt Flynn had, at this point in his LSU career. J-Lee will be the starter, and a very capable QB...as Flynn was. J-Jeff will be the backup to J-Lee, and if he picks up quickly...probably be used like RP was last year. I just don't see Hatch being the full time QB, with the lack of arm strength. We us the deep ball in our offense, and need to keep teams respecting it.

excellent analysis and I second it

I will go so far as saying if Hatch is our primary QB during the entire season, we are in a bit of trouble. Hatch would limit our offense severely and those short passes to the RBs he seems so good at will be ineffective.

exactly, I think it will work, even though it might make plays predictable to other teams, with Hatch in for J-Lee. But we may be able to mix that up with J-Jeff. Maybe even some direct snaps to Trindon, and Patrick Peterson.

you're right, Perrilloux didn't throw a pass for like 4 or 5 games in a row in seemed, but was still very effective in running those option plays.

This is straight from D-Byrd's mouth. I am literally holding the voice recorder to my ear as I type this to get it right.

"When you comparing the two, Lee throws the prettier ball and the easier ball to catch. But Hatch makes better reads and checks so his ball goes to the right place more often. Hatch is the faster of the two and can get out of the way better than Lee."

"Jordan Jefferson is the fastest of all three. But he still has a few things to learn in terms of leading receivers correctly and reading defenses."
