The defense let the offense down.

Who really thought that LSU could move up and down the field with Jefferson and Scott out?

After Scott left the game, LSU gained a total of 19 yards. That is including Ridley's run. 9 yards in the 4th quarter.

When your two most important players on the offense go down, it is time for the defense to step up.

That means adjusting to Ingram running to the left side 5/6 times. It means not allowing a big play to take everything out of the team.

Chavis got absolutely outcoached in the second half. And it should be embarrassing to him.

    Bama 2nd half drives:

    81 yards: TD
    -1 yard: Safety
    65 yards: FG
    73 yards: TD (1 play)
    31 yards: FG

Yes, Bama only punted because of the safety.

Complain about Peterson's INT, because that is legitimate.

But LSU's shot at winning this game was about Chavis shutting Bama down. He did not make adjustments in the 2nd half, and Bama did. Game over.

Can't argue with that. The D-lline was a non-factor, and once Ingram hits linebackers, he's dragging them for at least 3-4 more yards.

no but the 5-6 holding calls on Bama that were never called, the supposed flinch by Barksdale that was whistled 4-5 seconds after the play started, and numerous other bullshyt that went on, did doom us

we had no chance to win

the refs WOULD NOT ALLOW IT

they were given their marching orders

Yep. Unfortunately the LSU defensive lines that we have all become accustomed to are gone. This line is a shadow of the former lines. Both lines for that matter.

Just goes to show you can have all of the skill positions in the world but championship teams live and die by the lines.

I dunno, I saw SOOOO much HOlding it was .....actually, i have no words to explain it.

Also, OUR D gave us a chance to win. Thats all I expected of them.

I never thought we would DOMINATED on D, but I KNEW they would give our O the chance and they did.

Berge has a very good point, but so does Izzy. Refs were directly influential in 10 of Bama's 2nd half points, and took us out of a scoring opportunity in the 3rd quarter.

I have 1 question about the defense that I hope someone can answer. Frist let me say that I am very proud of the team they fought very hard.

Here is the question --- Why do our DBacks play such loose coverage at the line? That TD happened because his marker was over 15 yards away at the snap. This was happening a lot in the first half too.

The non call on the int didn't cost us the game, but it negated any chance to win it.

:geaux: I'm in total agreement with you here. Our line play on both sides of the ball has not been up to the level of past teams, eventhough they play hard. The effort is there, just not the results. Thank God for our LB's and DB's though. They are carrying the "D" and we wouldn't be close to 7 - 2 without them. :LSU231:

Ironically, it was to prevent a big play.

Chavis is a fan of "keeping everything in front of you." Taylor went for the tackle, and pushed Julio to the outside. Had he pushed Julio inside, he likely would have gained about 5 yards.

Each time Peterson came out, LSU played very soft defense. They also did right before the half- they ran a soft cover 2 zone it looked like.
