Miles Announces Football Staff Changes for 2008 LSU made it official on Monday as Doug Mallory and Bradley Dale Peveto have been promoted to co-defensive coordinators for the Tigers, head coach Les Miles announced. Miles also announced that Joe Robinson has joined the LSU staff as special teams coordinator and defensive line assistant, coaching specifically the defensive tackles and nose guards for the Tigers.
As we expected... I am not sure what I like best about the guy. Helping our under-performing Special Teams or his recruiting background. Good promotions/hires all around once again for Miles.
As expected... "Miles said that Mallory will make the defensive calls from the press box, while Peveto will administer the game from the sidelines." Considering these guys have worked together for a while and the chemistry within the staff, I think this is a great move. We're getting the best of both worlds. We'll have the advantage of having a guy up in the box wich allows him to see the field better, and we'll still have an on-the-field motivator. And we'll have a good coach dedicated to special teams, which needs much improvement.
i'm just curious and may have missed this but have we lost any other coaches other than pelini? i didn't think so, but i'm not sure.
A shame that all of this gets overshadowed by the other football news. Congrats to these guys, they've worked hard for it. I trust that Les knows what he's doing.
I hope it works out well, but I still have concerns about a co-defensive coordinator system. In addition, I don't know how much thought Miles gave to hiring someone from another program. I have some concerns, but will keep my fingers crossed.
I too am shaky on the whole "co-defensive coordinator" system. Texas did that last year and their defense went from one of the best in the nation to one of the worse.
