Jordan Jefferson had better have found a whole lot of moxy during the spring and summer for me to believe this will be a breakout year for him. Last year the offensive line sucked so I give him a little bit of break on some issues. However, he's got to have much better game awareness, feel, moxy - whatever way you want to describe it. The sacks, checking off to run the option to the short side, the spiking of the ball with one second - as the "natural leader" on the field he has to know better. He has got be be smarter, more mature and become more of a vocal and visible team leader. Jefferson has the talent and ability but the game still hasn't slowed down for him. Hopefully, this is the year the game does slow down for him and he ascends to the leadership spot and he leads LSU to great success. A lot of folks were impressed with him at the SEC Media Days, however it will have to happen right away. LSU fans will not stand for seeing the same horrible game management situations, sacks, bad plays and passes in the North Carolina game that they saw last year. JJ will have to play like he did that last time he faced an ACC team in the Ga Dome.

you may know more than me, but i doubt he was given a very long leash with audibles if any. i would think it would come from the sideline. more of a knock on the coaching staff not him.

same with the spike. he didn't do that on his own.

But that's what I'm getting at, as the leader on the field, he has to have the sense, smarts, moxy enough to comprehend the situation and make the play despite what might have been called. Despite what the sidelines or fans may have been screaming, Jeffereson as the leader on the field should have realized that he could not spike the football with one second. I know it was a crazy situation, but as the QB that's his responsibility. You can't convince me that Tim Tebow or Sam Bradford would've spiked the ball there.
As far as the audibles - again as the leader on offense, he's got to have the balls, moxy to tell Gary Crowton that check to the short side option is not working and that he's not comfortable running the option. Okay, maybe not during the game per se, but he's got to stand up and speak up during the week.
The badly overthrown passes and the holding on to the ball too long is all on Jordan Jefferson. There has to be some accountability with JJ and he's now a Junior, when does the youth excuse run out?
I saw nothing in the spring game that would make me think he's poised for a breakout year. Having the spring game on ESPN was an unmitigated disaster for JJ. He was so bad that you could hear the discomfort in the announcer's voices having to call it.
Look, I sincerely hope JJ has a Jason Campbell-esque transformation but I just haven't seen anything that indicates that is forthcoming.

The light bulb comes on at different times for different people.

There has been at least one coaching change that may have some impact on this, as well.

    I'm hopeful.

And I know it's taboo to say it - but I predict Jarrett Lee, who will not start unless Jefferson is either injured or just becomes retarded, is going to make some folks eat some crow when he does see the field in SEC play this season at some point.

(I just hope I'm not the one eating crow....)

Lets say JJ comes out, and hasnt improved his game AT ALL. But we pull one out against UNC, play sub-par against Vandy & Miss. St., Our Running Game & Defensive have improved and we knock off WV. LSU is not turning head by a greatly improved overall offense.

At this point you have Tenn. and UF coming up.

Whats your call? Stick JJ, trust the run, trust the D?

Start to consider one of the Lee's??? If so, which one? -

Do you think LSU can make it back to Atlanta, if JJ plays the same as he did last season? Do you really put that much emphasis on the QB position being the problems at LSU?

Do you feel that bringing over Gonzales from UF, after what he did with Percy Harvin & company, can help improve JJ's game with Toliver, Randle, Shep.... and convince GC that we need to run more plays with JJ on the roll out, that he is not a pocket passer, that in order for Gonzales and his WR Corp to be successful, JJ has to do what he does best, throw the ball on the run, or tuck it and pick up the first down himself.

I sure hope Gonzales has stepped up and said that, and has helped GC open up that playbook to fit the athletes we have. Because, thats winning football, when you can adjust your playbook to fit your players, & not just adjust your players to fit your playbook.
