If you worked in a school you would. Students take pictures of tests, video fights then post on youtube, video another student half dressed in a locker room, call home when they're not supposed to, post on facebook/access internet on it. There are a lot of reasons many school districts have strict policies about cell phones not being allowed on campus.

i think the writers of bar exams fall asleep while attempting to read this story of non-significance. some teachers are stupid and they tell their students the wrong things.

As someone who has read a decade worth of con law exams I would disagree, each year they have an exam with a teacher or school staff member telling kids that they cannot do something. But then again me disagreeing with you is nothing new.

Well when you put it that way phones should stay at home.

I know of a Catholic school in which the kids are allowed to bring them but must turn them in upon arrival and pick up in afternoon at dismissal. That would not be possible in the public schools cause there are too many who would take one that's not theirs. Could SURELY happen in a Catholic school too but not as much of a chance.

We do random searches and suspend for 1-3 days when we find a student with one in possession. On the second offense it can be held until the last day of school. I actually think if this is ever challenged in court that the school board could lose.

It used to be a MANDATORY 3 day suspension. I'd have Banner Roll students (Juniors/Seniors) who'd never been in trouble get a 3 days vacation the first time they'd EVER been to the office. Their parents were understandably livid. I'd tell them I agreed and they should speak to their board member about the policy. We FINALLY got it changed last year to give school admin's some discrepancy.

let me give you a hint if you ever have to answer these questions again. the teachers can tell kids to shut up .they can make them tuck their shirts in, they can make them stand in the corner. teachers have authority and kids are not like adults that have a right to assemble and protest. an adult can carry a sign in front of city hall that says the mayor is stupid. a kid cannot carry a sign at school that says the principal is stupid. its not a free speech argument unless you are stupid.

also i dont really believe you that questions that simple show up on the bar exam.

In both Wichita Falls and Mandeville, kids were only in trouble if their phone rang or if they got caught using it. It was ok to have it in their possession, which I think is a good compromise. I want my child to be able to reach me if it's a pressing issue.

If it was a simple cell phone, I would agree. But it's now a camera and a jukebox and a calculator and a computer with GPS tracking, and a movie theatre and a game console and a radio and a pager and a chat room and a TV and a web browser, and a photo album and a vibrator. All of which are counterproductive to the classroom process.

Understood. However, it is the day in which we live. From talking with the teachers/administrators, they really don't have much trouble. The policy is very strict as far as the phones being in use and it seems to be a decent compromise.
