I hate all the celebration dances, trash talking and taunting. However you have to use a little common sense. If that's taunting you could throw the flag on every single play of every game. SEC officials have been the bottom of the barrel for years. How can a conference that has been so dominant on the football field be so inept in officiating? The SEC front office really needs to raise the bar. Hell just hire the worst official from every other conference and the SEC could improve the quality of it's officials. JMO
This. It wasn't "excessive celebration". It was taunting. And yeah, he was taunting. The rule is what it is...and because it is, he deserved the penalty. That said, to make yourself feel better...think of it like this. How would you like to be a UF fan realizing that our PUNTER just taunted your players as he breezed past them into the end zone?
If I were a punter about to score on a 30 yard run I would have given them egregious!!!!!! That horse collar "no call" was ridiculous. :geauxtige
I know a lot of people just won't accept this, but that's COACHING. Josh Jasper did the EXACT same thing against McNeese St. last season. They're COACHED to pay attention to the situation, and if the defense doesn't rush and has their backs turned running down the field, take off. And yes he did taunt. He looked right back at the UF defenders and grandstanded. Is it a stupid rule? Maybe. But it IS the rule this year...and he definitely taunted the opposing team.
but this: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXyExyNolv8]Taunt Not Called - YouTube[/ame] isn't taunting?
Agree. And there was a facemask that went uncalled as well against them. FWIW, there were about a dozen holds that went uncalled against us...although the OL did play amazingly today.
Too bad this wasn't in effect when Tebow taunted the LSU student section with his hand gesture to 'call me', because you know.. Tebow could do no wrong ;p~
