I'm well aware of that, but a main topic of discussion on this thread is how poorly Eugene did last year in real game situations and how great Peterson is doing in camp (some are saying he'll definitely be the starter). So the fact that Eugene is holding off Peterson tells me that: A - Eugene is pulling his game together, or B - Peterson is not the prodigy that some people claim.
I hear ya. And I respect your opinion. I just think you're wrong on both counts. A. It's too early still. B. Miles is loyal to his upperclassmen if the competition is close. C. Eugene hasn't had a chance to prove himself as a starter. D. It's too early still. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think it's necessarily either of those things, and certainly not definitively one OR the other. Nothing personal - I just think you're jumping the gun a bit. :thumb: Must be gettin' close to Aug 30th....I'm gettin' frisky...(not in that way, John...)
Yeah, me too...the waiting is FRUSTRATING. All we want to do is see them play, and all we get are split-second shots on the news and secondhand reports on blogs (for which we are grateful, BTW). The itch wont completely be scratched until 9-20.
Exactly. Just because he doesn't start doesn't mean he won't get a lof, if not the majoritym of the snaps.
Deep enough to sustain injuries and fill the gaps without discernible talent level drops. The references to Melba & Toast were humorous, indeed! Great thread! ANY weaknesses (weekly game plan, personnel mismatches) can be overcome when you have the kind of front seven like we do. I still don't see teams averaging more than 14 on LSU this year.
I'm going to peg it at about 17...but our run D will be top three in the country. I say "top three" because I'm not sold on the super-stardom of our LB's. Not that they aren't going to be good...Beckwith is a monster...but are they "number one" good as a unit? I hope I can say "yes" as we get into the season.
And the overlooked point that teams simply won't have all day to throw on this defense. Last year, we had key injuries and zero pass rush and teams took advantage of that, scoring like they did. It was almost unbearable to watch. All thanks to that animal Tuberville and his dirty antics taking out Mr. Dorsey for the second half of the year, but that is another thread.
LOL, I share your frustrations on that...but as stated in another thread by another poster, LSU's D averaged only 17 ppg last year when you overlook the OT scoring. They were still la creme de la creme. I forget why...there was a specific reason...but Pelini stopped calling as many blitzes in the second half of the season last year and that was where our lack of pass rush came from. Dorsey being at 60-70 percent didn't help, either. Our DE's didn't have the monster year we expected them to, either. I think they had eleven sacks between them? Some were predicting 10 a piece.
