I think the paradigm has changed on redshirting. With so many top players going three and out, if you redshirt a guy he may bolt for the NFL as a sophomore. As shallow as we were at quarterback, we really couldn't expect to redshirt the only available backup.
And now there's this -- Braxton Miller, anyone? -- http://lsu.247sports.com/Bolt/Braxton-Miller-in-play-for-LSU-34493602. I wasn't certain if this warranted a separate thread or not...
The 247 story he cited is from today, and WAFB out of Baton Rouge has picked up the story today as well. Seems strange that they would run a story that was supposedly discredited weeks ago.
I think taking Golson is a waste. You alienate AJ and Harris to take a QB who is better(although I think Harris was never given a true opportunity) than what we have. He is not a world beater to possibly have one or both transfer. I would however take Braxton Miller because he could be a key to a potential title run. He would be great for Harris and AJ to learn under.
Just took a little time to search and I can't find the article now. I know it was in the middle of December. I want to say it was the Columbus Dispatch, but I can't say that for certain. His father said they hadn't talked to anyone and that Braxton had "unfinished business at OSU." Here's where the discrepancy begins. Braxton's surgery was done by Dr. Andrews and his rehab work has been in Birmingham. He's said that he's looking at schools to transfer to, and he's told that to other athletes that were working out/rehabbing with him. So, on one hand we have the father saying one thing to the press. On the other hand we have Braxton saying things to other athletes. Here's one of the quotes from his father I found while briefly looking around—Dec 13th: “Unless something drastic changes, that’s his plan, that’s why he went to Ohio State,” Kevin Miller said. “He loves Ohio State. So right now that’s what the plan is, to come back and do whatever he can do to help the team make it to the playoffs again next year and win the title.” OSU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tom Herman said this week that he hasn’t sensed anything different regarding Miller’s intentions. “They have not changed,” Herman said. “I am aware of all the speculation out there, but in all of my conversations with him, his plans have not changed. He plans on being here next year.” Dad covering up for his son? I don't know. What we do know is Braxton is saying one thing, his father another. One talking to other players, another talking to the press. When this story started coming out of Birmingham back in December I heard UofSC, Arkansas, Boston College, Oregon, and LSU. Since then I've heard Bama mentioned as well: I'm skeptical there. I don't know if he's even throwing yet. I tend to doubt it since his rehab work has been with the surgeon's PT's. He has graduated, so if he chooses to transfer he'll be able to participate in spring camp.
