We absolutely HAVE to win our bowl game. We've have big games throughout this season, but no matter whether we win or lose against Arky, in order for us to receive any semblance of respect, we must dominate in our bowl game. Now I would love to be in a BCS bowl, but the bowl doesn't matter as much as our performance. If we lose our bowl game, that justifies not only all the jackass pundits and writers who said we were lucky all year long and our coach simply has a magic horseshoe up his ass and a purple and gold rabbits foot dangling next to his brass Lesticles. However, if we win, and especially if we look good doing it. That not only allows us to gloat excessively, keeping our deserved respect, but its sets us up for a decent pre-season ranking next year, in addition to some optimism amongst the press and fanbase. Our loss to Penn State last year was rough, but our overall bowl record the last decade is really excellent. However, right now, through this season, we've been viewed as the team that "somehow" managed to get into the top-5 and who ( according to many ) doesn't really belong above Stanford, Wisconsin, and Ohio State. A big win in the bowl game will do alot to silence the critics and give us a great boost going into next season.
Agreed who gives a sh1t about who respects us. Who is some Yankee blowhard in conneticut ? Did you have a fun year watching our tigers ? Did we play clean hard fought games? Did you have awesome tailgates? Did you get drunk several times? Do we have a clean program with a dynamic coach That's all that matters to me... Win or lose it has been a great year with lots of excitement
Of course I had a great time. I loved the season we've had and want another like it or better. However, unfortunately, the media, the coaches, and the preseason ranking actually make a pretty significant difference when it comes to a team that is striving for the NC. ( for example, Auburn being left out in 2004, due to the love fest of USC and Oklahoma ( ranked #1 and #2 preseason ), when Auburn was probably better than both ) I don't need respect to love our team, but respect from the other teams, coaches, and the media not only affects out standings and how we are perceived, but I guarantee that it also makes the team feel a lot better about itself. I know they bond together and become close knit in difficult times, and that is great. Our 2004 and 2007 teams played for each other and in 2007, for their coach, and that makes a huge difference, but those players also deserve a lot more respect nationally than they've been given this year.
I feel bad to say that but even if we win the national championship some of the ESPN idiots still won't give us any respect. There are always some people from whom you can never earn respect because they just hate us for no reason. I personally don't give a damn to their respect.
I got to take both my son and my daughter to their first LSU games this year !!! Pretty good memories about that.. I think they'll remember that for their whole lives and tell their future children about it long after I'm gone. That's my perspective of how the season went.
Unfortunately we have to give a sh!t what the media thinks because they control 2/3 of the voting process.
