are we still playing this dl to maintain their lane assignments not getting pass rush upfield most of the time, still? this drives me absolutely insane.

also, poor tackling is bad across the board it seems and covering positions of the dbs is missing. then again it could be mainly coleman and jai and I just havent noticed. I just doubt it.

There was a lot of poor tackling against UGA. That has nothing to do with the coaches. You learn to tackle at a very young age.

I agree. But I cannot blame the offense for putting them in bad spots.
In the Florda game, UF had 4 drives of 60 + that resulted in TDs and 2 more that resulted in FG.

That's 9 of the 10 TDs our defense allowed in those 2 games where our opponent had to go more than half the length of the field. So it's not that our offense is giving them a short field to work with.

We simply cannot continue to allow teams to just march all over us like this. Because if it continues, we will be forcing Lee to come from behind and win the game for us. He's not ready to be that guy yet.

It's not just the occassional short field though, it's the 3 & outs, which don't give the defense any time to rest as well...

Yup, Pelini's scheme. I hate it as well.

Coleman appears to be the main culprit to me, but they all do it occassionally.

That points to time of possession.

It was a 32:28 split in favor of Georgia. Nothing outrageous there.

You can't put the blame of our defense's ineptitude on being on the field too long because our offense is ineffective. I can't buy that.

Even in the Florida game, the defense was not tired even though it spent a lot of the time on the field in the first half, because Florida was scoring so fast and the defense really wasn't on the field all that long.

I haven't read the whole thread but I would say that we have no pressure on teh QB. That puts everyone in a bad position and we have a great D line. So all you can point to is the scheming. not enough stunting or whatever. It all goes back to pressure.

    fairly accurate guess.

except watch some of the blitzing we do and pay careful attention to a bunch of LSU secondary personnel running around like their hair is on fire. blitzes only work if you cover for at least 3 seconds after the snap. double-edged sword. scheming is horrible on the blitzes.

How come no one is talking about how lame our defensive gameplan's are?

It's frustrating to watch QBs check out of obvious blitzes. Example: Georgia's first drive Stafford snaps early on a safety blitz and burns us for a first. Checks off again later when he spots a blitz for another first. Then Gary Danielson and every knowledgeable SEC fan is saying watch the QB draw...TD Stafford. Everyone knows I don't like the Pelini scheme, but we did have a good game plan every week and were prepared. These guys (Mallory?) obviously are not good at finding a strong game plans...week in and week out. Plus the Offensive minded coaches (Meyer/Richt) have game planned easily for us...hence them marching down the field consistently. Hopefully, Miles see this more than missed assignments and realizes they are in over their heads.

Ture Dat...Issy hit on something here...Even with the 50 plus points we gave up against Arkansas, and Kentucky last year...we managed to finish 3rd in Total Defense, and 3rd in Defensive Pass efficiency in the NCAA, with ole Bo. So guess what, the two headed Defensive Coordinators aren't getting it done. I've seen one decent Half-time defensive adjustment made all year...that was the South Carolina game. UF we blew it, UGA was ugly...we better get it together or Bama will hand it to us.
    One side note:
Will Muschamp took over a terrible Texas Defense that was 52nd in Total defense and 71st in Defensive Pass efficiency in 2007. Im willing to bet there awhole lot better than last year with a totally different DC and scheme.
