Yeah .. it kinda sucks that the system has such that Bama is a shoe in for the NC game, but the team that beat them is not.
Yeah, but there is a playoff system. The Broncos probably had to win three road games, plus they had to beat the NFC Champion to get the Lombardi Trophy. At the end of the season, the AFC didn't get together and decide that the Broncos should be in the Super Bowl automatically because they liked their "body of work". You are comparing apples to toasters. All of us want to see LSU win the MNC, but I don't think it's right that Alabama might get a shot without winning the SEC, so how can I apply a different standard to LSU?? Especially when you consider that the loser of LSU-Alabama would have had an easier road to the "title" game. If the season is a "playoff", Alabama should be out, unless they somehow win the SEC. Hopefully, LSU makes this academic by handling their business.
I agree. If every college football fan demanded a playoff, there would be one. No way a situation like this should happen.
I can't access any BCS archives to back and look, but I am certain Oklahoma was before they played the game vs Kansas State in the Big 12 championship. LSU and USC were sitting behind OU, both with a loss. OU was undefeated. OU had such a tremendous lead in the computer polls that they still ended up #1 in the computer polls after the loss to KState. But the BCS computations were totally different back then. You started from 1.00 and went up from there (for instance, if you were #1 in the computer polls and #2 in the human polls, your BCS number was 1.5). Then there were other factors like top 10 wins decreasing your total by 0.10. But they were #1 in all the computer polls and held every single vote from the human polls.
Edwards is usually pretty good at looking at things as they currently stand. What happens if the voters come in on the last regular-season poll and make their voices heard? How much does that change the computation? We've had some good discussion here about what it would take from human voters to elevate Okie St. for example.
thats why the rules are as they are in case the one in a million chance the top 2 teams playing for the bcs are in the same conference. i look at it (now) like when we play tulane during the regular season in baseball. we can still play them again for the CWS championship. or like the big east or acc in college hoops. the top 2 teams are sometimes from their conferences and deserve to play it out. just a regular season matchup. happens all the time in every other sport. its now clear LSU and Bama are the top 2 teams. Let's play it again, sam.
Nowhere more than NFL either. I wonder if any wild card team has ever had to beat a team three times. Two divisional games then meet them in the playoffs.
Well, the voters decisions mean everything honestly. Edwards has no earthly idea how these people are going to feel if Oklahoma State trounces Oklahoma 51-21 while Alabama is sitting home. Nobody would know at that point. I can guarantee you there will be a lot of sweaty pigs in Alabama the night of December 3rd if that happens.
