Did you finish reading my post? It wasn't that they had trouble getting in the play that surprised me. It was that Etling showed some fire and appears to be a vocal leader when shit like that happens.
Biggest concern for LSU now is, why the hell did they let off the gas and seemingly stop playing last night?
I'm going to be optimistic and attribute it to slowly coming back to their senses after a two year bender.
As long as LM is the coach at LSU the requirement should be to concentrate on transfer qb's. Don't waste time recruiting from HS ranks. It's pretty damn clear the only halfway competent qb play we get is from qb's first coached by others at the collegiate level.
The more experienced he gets, the better I think Etling will be. But we're at the mercy of the play calling and coaching staff, so it's anybody's guess at this point.
Its obvous where that comment is coming from, but its not that HS QBs can't play here, its a matter of getting the right QB for the system. I've noticed that we're starting to use those big picture boards for play calling, saw them for the first time on a sideline shot during the Wisky game. Those boards are purely a product of the spread offense philosophy, and it was the final straw that convinced me that Les/Cam aren't even aware that there are different styles of offense. Everyone else uses the boards, we have to use them too. Everyone else has quarterbacks who can run and pass, they're "dual threat"; we have to have a dual threat too. What they really need is a QB who can sit in the pocket, go through the progressions and find the open man, but have enough mobility to buy time with his feet and continue to go through those progressions. Etling seems to have those abilities, and oh, by the way, he was considered a "pro-style QB" by the recruiting services.
Been saying this for years. You can't take a dual threat guy and put him in a prostyle offense and expect him to miraculously turn into a pocket passer. That's only been successful twice and it was in the NFL. You have to run a spread style zone read offense for those guys to be a success.
It will defiantly be week to week. Teams are going to have to respect Etlings ability to throw the ball and I don't think we've had that in quite some time. You saw us take Bana down to the wire in 2014 with absolutely no threat to throw. I think with Fournette being healthy and a fierce defense In Tiger Stadium and a respectable passing game Bama will have their hands full. Bama had trouble stoping Ole Miss and they have no running game and no Defense. I think if it all falls into place we can beat Bama being that we are 2 dimensional. We also need our Special Teams to play like they did against Miss. St.
Myles Brennan looks like he could be the guy. I hope he doesn't disappoint. I hope Cameron can develope him into an SEC caliber QB.
