LSU is 6th. USC is 7th. Vandy is 8th. Link: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3629362 Not sure what to make of this.......
We haven't played the meat of our schedule yet. Right now our computer rankings are being held down by App. State and North Texas. Wins against Florida, Georgia and Bama should help us out in this department.
Appy State doesn't even count in some computers. LSU basically has three games, compared to others with 5 or 6 games. Of the three games, none of the teams LSU has beaten thus far have great records.
Auburn losing this past weekend sure didn't help. Bottom line is if we escape our schedule with just one loss, we have an excellent chance. Of course, it would be much better if our loss was to florida or georgia and not bama. However if we lose to bama, it won't matter anyway because my depression will cause me to launch myself off of tiger stadium.
I truly believe we have a better shot at getting Vandy in Atlanta than Auburn remaining a "quality" win.
In the old BCS SOS formula, if you scheduled a Div II school, you received no wins from that team but you did receive all of their losses. So let's say Appy State went 7-5, LSU's SOS would have been adjusted as if Appy State went 0-5. Huge penalty. And rightfully so. LSU stands a chance of being left out of the championship game with 1 loss based solely on SOS and our computer rankings (depending on who the other 1 loss teams are).
Well all of the computer formulas use SOS in some form or fashion. Of course the BCS has since dropped SOS from their formula after the 2003 debacle with USC being left out. I liked the old formula better because it reduced the voters power significantly. We all know from last year that the voters were able to control Ohio State's opponent. Luckily they picked LSU.
LSU has only four games in. Many teams have 6 already, half their season gone. We have more opportunities to change our ranking late in the season when it counts, . . . for good or for bad.
