Hot and Not in the SEC: Week 1 - SEC Blog - ESPN "HOT Les Miles’ seat: I wasn’t one of those who was necessarily ready to concede that Miles was really on the hot seat. But after watching the Tigers nearly give that game away in the fourth quarter last weekend to a depleted North Carolina team, he better see to it that this team plays to its talent level the rest of the way, plays with more discipline – and most importantly – plays all four quarters. And one other thing: Quit saying that Russell Shepard should have gotten the ball more. Make it happen. You’re the head coach."
Just another voice in the room. The only voice that matters is Joe Alleva, and he seems pretty happy. Everything else is noise.
Great comment by Chris Low. Especially about Shepard. It's a travesty beyond belief that Russell Shepard would NOT be part of the 2nd half game plan. Les Miles needs to step aside and let Crowton do his thing. And yes, the seat Les Miles is sitting in got a little warmer, not cooler, after Saturday night's showing.
Yeah, I'm sure Les Miles was insisting that Shepard not get the ball. He's purposely sabotaging us, you got it bud. More like our defense couldn't get off the field and our offensive line couldn't avoid drive killing penalties. Hard to give Shepard the ball when you're trying to stop a frantic comeback.
The writing is on the wall... now we'll see how well the coaching staff makes adjustments and finishes the rest of the year. No more excuses... crap or get off the pot.
He is absolutely right. You folks still drinking the Miles brand of koolaid are silly. The writing is on the wall but you are too concerned with sounding positive.... kind of reminds me of "Hope and Change" LOL
Not sure what game you were watching. So I'll give you a recap. North Carolina didn't mount a comeback til midway through the 4TH QUARTER. Not the 3rd quarter. The Tigers had 4 or 5 possessions before NC mounted their furious comeback. Go back and watch it again and tell me how many times Russell Shepard touched the ball between the start of the 2nd half and the time NC scored to make it 30-17. I'll give you a hint. You will only need 1 hand.
Yeah, I got it. But how many offensive plays period did we run during that time? I agree he should get the ball way more, if he doesn't have it in his hands as often as possible it's a shame, but he did score two touchdowns didn't he? We threw at him four times and gave him a few hand offs, all in one half. The second half was a bizarre thirty minutes of football and is not a great way to judge our offensive substitution patterns. Once things start going sideways, the focus is on winning the game not getting Shepard touches. (I know, the two are not mutually exclusive) I just don't get where Les Miles is to blame for this. I don't think he would have said no if Crowton called a play for Shepard in the third quarter. More like, our OC was trying to establish our running game and get a drive together as we were badly trailing in time of possession. We know we can hit big plays, but we still don't know about finishing drives. Utilization of Shep is the least of our worries on O as of today.
There is something at halftime that goes on in the locker room. It's called halftime adjustments. Les Miles, as sure as I am typing here, ordered Crowton to establish a ground game for the remainder of the contest. Miles doesn't want to see 350 yards passing and 95 rushing. That's not how he likes to see his team operate. He wants to win the game in the trenches. Problem is, we dont' have and have not had an O-line in the past 2 seasons + that is capable of winning the game in the trenches. Play to your strengths. Jordan Jefferson should be able to throw for nearly 300 yards per game this season. It won't happen however. It will much closer to the 150 you saw Saturday night. And that's just completely sad and unacceptable.
