It's better than this article: stewart_mandel/11/05/cfb.mailbag Any writer who thinks LSU fans "fear" that Les won't measure up to Nick just isn't paying attention. Les has done better than Nick already. We would have liked Nick to remain a cherished part of LSU tradition wherever he decided to go. But he chose to go to a school that plays LSU each year, so now he's an opponent that is trying to take something away from LSU. So he gets treated just like . . . Tuberville . . . or Spurrier . . . or Meyer . . . or Richt.
Agree and disagree. We dont fear that Miles wont measure up. He's already MORE than measured up but I dont think he has done better. Nick took a broken chevy and turned it into a high performance corvette. Les took that corvette and kept it in tip top shape. I think what Saban did was harder than what Miles has done even though Miles has done VERY well. I just wouldnt consider it "better". All these BS articles are just story fodder. I think many LSU fans want to beat Saban and beat him badly but there is no fear or jealousy like many of these articles try to imply.
I thought it was a pretty good article. My take was the fear and hatred by LSU fans was directed at Saban, not Les.
I don't hate him any more than any other coach. Actually hate is a strong word. I don't even dislike the guy but he is the coach of an opponent so it goes without saying. I appreciate what he did for the LSU program but LSU is greater than an individual. It took quite a lot of people to get this place where it is today. Only now the Vette has a flat...well at least we have run-flats.
I think that is spot on. I was thinking the same thing today reading responses about yesterdays election. The anger or hatred are permeated by fear. It's a very strong bond between the two.
Les went 11-2, 11-2, and 12-2 with the team that Nick went 9-3 with. Les' record is better than Nicks first three years or his last three years at LSU or anywhere else. Les went to the SECCG in his rookie year in the SEC, which has never been done before or since. No bowl losses yet. And a crystal football, of course.
Saban might have "restored" us but thats about where it ends with his ability. He is very good at rebuilding a program. Nobody really knows if he could sustain and improve it even more, like Miles has, because he has never stayed anywhere long enough for us to find out. Might be something to that.
You cant compare records because the situations were completely different. You can say, however, that each are good enough to win national championships and that alone makes them better than almost every other coach in football. Each are great coaches, will continue to be great coaches, and will more than likely meet each year with good football teams.
