Porter is now back at LSU with the intention of walking on. Looks like he realizes he jumped the gun a bit.
I haven't read all the official review stuff but just clarifying what a greyshirt offer is and when a scholarship is given. He would of had a scholarship after the 1st semester (Intersession) so he would have been on scholarship in the 2010 class. He choose UK instead of the 2010 scholarship.
Yes but it doesn't change the fact that he was offered a scholarship, signed, enrolled then had the offer revoked before being subject to the "fair annual review". Okay, I am still not clear and when you posted that I was hesitant to question it and figured either I was not understanding something or missed something so please bare with me. Last fall he (and another kid from Georgia too actually) were offered scholarships and signed LOI's under that pretense. Offering a kid to grayshirt means he would have to either wait til the Spring to enroll, or enroll on his own dime and start the eligibility time clock, doesn't it? This would put him on scholarship after the fall semester- which would be now, this year- so I don't get how he could've been on scholarship last season. THEN, at the time wouldn't the assumption be that he'd go towards this year's class since the reason his offer was pulled was due to the fact there was no room in the 2010 class.
The piece that ESPN did though made it sound as though Porter was disgruntled. Obviously not if he is back.
I didn't see that and everything I've read he was clearly glad to be back. Even after refusing to take the grayshirt and when he left I thought he was all class. Here's a quote he made back then: “I want to be somewhere that I am wanted,” Porter said. “I understand how things are going at LSU, and they didn’t have room. To me what happened today wasn’t fair. But it’s how things go. It’s a business. And I fully understand that now.” I'm glad it all worked out. I was told yesterday that since he refused to take a grayshirt, per NCAA rules he cannot receive a scholarship from the Tigers for two years. Anyone know if this is true and what would make any player have to sit out 2 years? I had never heard of any such "wait".
the ncaa and schools and athletic dept dont give a **** about the students, just the fball program. thats what makes this crap happen.
He WOULD'VE been going on scholly this semester had he accepted the terms of the greyshirt. But he didn't, and now realizes his mistake. So now, he is at LSU, and has to wait a year to get the scholly...at the earliest. I was just jacking with you FWIW. With that said, I don't have the rules memorized, but I do know it's a fairly common practice. It worked out for Cam Fordham (the one from GA that you mentioned) because he accepted the greyshirt. Now he'll be on scholly for the spring semester, which we be considered part of the 2010 class. The 2011 class isn't in yet, except for a couple early enrollees.
